Brown Brothers unveils limited-edition aluminium Prosecco bottle

The 750ml aluminium bottles are resealable and 40% lighter than their glass counterparts.

AUSTRALIA – Australia-based Prosecco producer Brown Brothers has launched a limited-edition 750ml aluminium bottle, a move aimed at advancing sustainability in the beverage packaging sector.

The new bottles, now available across Australia and New Zealand, are resealable and 40% lighter than traditional glass bottles, reducing transportation costs and environmental impact.

According to the company, the aluminium design keeps Prosecco fresher for longer, chills faster, and enhances portability for social gatherings, making it ideal for summer and festive seasons.

The aluminium bottles feature an eight-colour print capability, boosting shelf appeal during high-demand periods.

Unlike glass bottles, which often require labels or sleeves, these bottles streamline recycling by eliminating secondary packaging.

Aluminium’s infinite recyclability makes it a preferred material for eco-conscious brands, and Brown Brothers’ initiative taps into this growing industry trend toward sustainable solutions.

“Our motivation is to be a force for good by showcasing climate leadership in our industry through energy efficiency, biogas production, solar installations, and water recycling technologies,” a Brown Brothers spokesperson stated.

In a related development, Australian brewer Stone & Wood recently partnered with Visy, Noveli, and Rio Tinto to launch the ‘Re-In-Can-Ation’ project in early 2025.

This initiative focuses on increasing recycled aluminium content in beverage cans, potentially reducing carbon emissions by 59% compared to their current cans.

A report by industry experts highlights that such efforts are part of a broader push to meet consumer demand for greener packaging while addressing regulatory pressures for reduced environmental footprints.

Lion, a prominent beverage company, emphasized collaboration in its June 2025 sustainability update, noting that partnerships are key to scaling sustainable practices.

The company has been exploring lightweight materials and recycling innovations to lower its environmental impact.

These industry-wide efforts demonstrate a commitment to balancing functionality with sustainability, as brands like Brown Brothers and Stone & Wood respond to growing consumer and regulatory expectations.

The shift to aluminium packaging, as seen with Brown Brothers’ Prosecco bottle, offers practical benefits like durability and convenience while supporting environmental goals.

As more companies adopt similar strategies, the beverage industry is steadily moving toward a future where sustainable packaging is the norm, driven by innovation and collaboration.
