Canon South Africa brings Edale label, packaging press portfolio to local market

The integration of Edale’s web transport technology into Canon’s LabelStream 4000 series combines Edale’s mechanical expertise with Canon’s inkjet print heads, creating a hybrid that competes with conventional flexo on speed and with toner-based digital on quality.

SOUTH AFRICA – Canon South Africa has made the Edale portfolio of label and packaging presses available locally, including digital and hybrid presses, carton lines, and finishing systems for shorter production runs.

The move reflects a focus on local market presence and long-term industry development.

According to Canon, businesses are under increasing pressure to adapt as the print and packaging industry changes in response to heightened consumer demands, shorter production runs, and the need for more flexibility.

Canon SA has made Edale technology available locally to support packaging specialists and commercial printers in improving productivity, output quality, and production efficiency. Customers can receive local support, training, and ongoing service as part of Canon’s offering.

Hennie Badenhorst, Canon SA head of sales for B2B direct and commercial print, explained that bringing the Edale portfolio to South Africa is a meaningful step in the company’s journey to support local industry through innovation.

He noted that Canon understands the challenges its customers face, and this expansion enables the company to provide solutions that combine global expertise with local relevance.

Why Edale Matters for Label Converters

Edale develops printing and converting equipment specifically for the label and packaging sector, where precision registration, consistent colour reproduction, and rapid job changeovers are critical.

Unlike commercial printing where runs may number in the thousands, label converters often run jobs of a few hundred metres, requiring presses that minimise waste during setup and changeover.

The integration of Edale’s web transport technology into Canon’s LabelStream 4000 series combines Edale’s mechanical expertise with Canon’s inkjet print heads, creating a hybrid that competes with conventional flexo on speed and with toner-based digital on quality.

A Cohesive Strategy

The integration is an example of a cohesive strategy, says Canon, where technology and service work together to provide end-to-end value while helping customers adapt more quickly to changing market demands.

Badenhorst stated that this goes beyond expanding the portfolio, unlocking new possibilities for customers.

By combining Edale’s specialised capabilities with Canon’s vision for innovation, he noted that Canon enables businesses to scale, diversify, and confidently meet the demands of a dynamic market.

When the Press Comes with Local Support

A label press is only as valuable as the service behind it. Canon SA’s local support, training, and ongoing service for Edale equipment address a common pain point for South African converters who have previously imported presses and waited weeks for technicians.

By offering Edale through its local channel, Canon turns a machine purchase into a partnership.
