Cardbox Packaging invests US$13.89M to expand Wolfsberg site in Austria

AUSTRIA – Austria-based producer of high-quality and sophisticated carton packaging has invested over US$13.89 million (€14 million) to expand and modernize its Wolfsberg site.

The company says that due to the growth in the previous year, the need for physical expansion has become critical.

Cardbox Packaging adds that the investments are being directed at new machines and modernization.

With the support of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, the machinery in Wolfsberg will include the new Heidelberg XL 1067LYYLX (7c+2v) printing line and two Mastermatrix punching machines.

With the new technological investments and the high degree of automation, the company is well prepared for future growth. Cardbox Packaging is scheduled to start new operations in the fourth quarter of this year.

“By investing in the Cardbox Packaging Group, the Wolfsberg site can increase its focus on special packaging solutions and support our customers with innovative top equipment and tailor-made workflows that meet future market requirements,” said Roland Schöberl, Managing Director of Cardbox Packaging Holding.

“At the same time, the site will be expanded into a groundbreaking competence center for sustainable barrier solutions through the implementation of a unique offline coating system.”

The group also specializes in barrier coatings and is successful in the European packaging industry.

“We firmly believe that the investment will become the group’s most important asset, which will also contribute to overall company growth,” adds Klaus Hockl, also Managing Director of Cardbox Packaging Holding.

The Cardbox Packaging Group, with sites in Austria, Serbia, Czechia and the USA, has been active in Carinthia since 2011, employing 60 of its almost 250 employees at this location.

Alongside the plant expansion, workforce growth is being planned too. The continuously rising annual turnover of the Cardbox Packaging Group is expected to reach Euro 50 million in 2022.

The group continues to drive circularity in the packaging industry, an effort that was recognized when the company won the Carton Austria Award (CAA) in 2021.

The competition is a joint project by PROPAK Austria, CASH Handelsmagazin and Pro Carton.

It brings the best Austrian cardboard packaging solutions onto the stage, and they’re really something to be proud of.
