Coleus Packaging expands operations with US$2.14M investment in metal crown manufacturing machine

SOUTH AFRICA – Coleus Packaging, a leading metal crown manufacturer, is poised for expansion with its recent R40 million (US$2.14m) investment in a state-of-the-art metal crown manufacturing machine.

This strategic move aims to significantly ramp up production to meet the burgeoning demand from bottling companies, breweries, and other players in the beverage industry across South Africa and beyond.

With this investment, Coleus Packaging has acquired the PMC500, a cutting-edge machine capable of churning out an impressive 5,000 metal crown caps per minute.

This investment reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing operational capabilities and driving efficiency at its Alrode factory in Alberton, Johannesburg.

According to Phillip Sathekge, a 25% black economic-empowerment shareholder in Coleus Packaging, this investment will not only boost production output but also ensure consistent product quality while reducing overall energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Stelios Vitogiannis, Managing Director of Astir Vitogiannis, which holds a 75% stake in Coleus, underscores the importance of this investment in optimizing manufacturing processes and reducing operational costs.

By streamlining production with the PMC500, Coleus Packaging aims to achieve remarkable efficiency levels of 90% to 95%.

Ian Victor, Managing Director of Coleus Packaging, highlights the transformative impact of the PMC500 on the company’s ability to meet customer demands and expand its market share.

With enhanced output and efficiency, Coleus Packaging anticipates fewer customer complaints, reduced prices, and increased competitiveness in the brewery and beverage industry.

Looking ahead, Victor is optimistic about Coleus Packaging’s growth trajectory, both locally and across the African continent.

With projections of significant growth in the South African brewery and beverage industry, fueled by a 6% to 8% annual increase, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities.

The PMC500 not only represents a technological advancement for Coleus Packaging but also signifies its commitment to becoming a preferred supplier in the metal crown cap manufacturing market.

With aspirations to extend its reach to more African countries, Coleus Packaging is poised to achieve remarkable milestones, positioning itself alongside multinational global companies in the industry.
