Cosmo Specialty Chemicals unveils eco-friendly barrier coatings for sustainable packaging

INDIA – Cosmo Specialty Chemicals, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cosmo First, has introduced a new range of Oil and Grease Resistant (OGR) barrier coatings, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional polyethylene coatings.

These innovative water-based solutions—OGR 145B and OGR 145S—address growing environmental concerns while maintaining high-performance standards for diverse packaging applications.

With governments worldwide phasing out conventional polyethylene coatings in favor of sustainable alternatives, Cosmo Specialty Chemicals is advancing green manufacturing with its latest OGR formulations.

Innovative OGR coatings for diverse applications

The OGR 145B is a non-heat sealable barrier coating for food packaging. Its advanced formulation offers exceptional oil, grease, and water resistance while ensuring compatibility with various coating applications. It also features anti-blocking properties, zero VOC emissions, and FDA compliance for direct food contact.

The OGR 145S, on the other hand, is engineered for paper cup manufacturing, featuring heat-sealing capabilities.

It enhances paper-to-paper bonding and delivers excellent resistance to moisture, oil, and grease. This variant supports flexible application methods, including gravure, flexo, and air knife coating, while maintaining food-grade safety compliance.

Both coatings undergo rigorous testing using KIT and Cobb Index measurements, ensuring optimal grease resistance and water absorbency performance.

These scientifically validated parameters guarantee consistent quality and reliable barrier protection across various packaging applications.

With the launch of these innovative OGR coatings, Cosmo Specialty Chemicals continues to drive sustainability in packaging, providing businesses with practical, eco-friendly solutions that meet evolving regulatory and consumer demands.

ISO 9001:2015 certification

Cosmo Specialty Chemicals was recently awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Quality Management System (QMS), reinforcing its commitment to excellence in product design, development, manufacturing, and delivery.

Issued in December 2024, the certification recognizes the company’s adherence to international quality standards across its MIDC Area facility in Waluj, Aurangabad.

It highlights Cosmo Specialty Chemicals’ focus on consistent product quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous operational improvement while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
