Meanwhile, in response to the government’s emergency declaration, UNICEF is working closely with local partners to assess and strengthen the response to ensure the protection and support of children and families.
Dr. Penelope Campbell, Representative of UNICEF Zambia, highlights the impact of climate change on children and youth in Zambia, emphasizing the urgent need for action.
“UNICEF, in close coordination with the UN family and partners, is supporting the Government to provide immediate lifesaving and life-sustaining assistance to the affected population, with a special focus on children and their families, while we strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable,” said Dr. Campbell.
UNICEF’s multifaceted approach includes nutrition support, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives, strengthening the health system, and providing protection services.
UNICEF seeks approximately US411 million to support immediate lifesaving efforts and long-term resilience-building programs.
This comprehensive response underscores the commitment to safeguarding the well-being of vulnerable populations and building resilience in the face of climate challenges.
