FRANCE – French pharmaceutical firm Horus Pharma has collaborated partnered with Plastic Bank to recycle plastic.
This partnership aims to recycle nearly 100 tonnes of plastic annually and is in line with Horus Pharma’s environmental program, Eco’ Ophtalmo.
The program focuses on developing recyclable packaging and achieving ‘Plastic Net Zero’ since its launch in September last year.
Horus Pharma also works closely with ophthalmologists to raise awareness of the impact of their medical practices on the environment.
The move aligns with Horus Pharma’s DNA of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). The firm’s growing understanding of the potentially negative environmental effects of industrial activity has given rise to a number of projects.
Founded in 2003, the French firm develops preservative-free products to facilitate eye and eyelid health.
The firm aims to improve patients’ everyday lives by developing solutions and products for all segments of the ophthalmology market in France and Europe.
Horus Pharma CEO and co-founder Claude Claret said: “Horus Pharma has committed, in partnership with Plastic Bank, to recycling nearly 100 tonnes of plastic before it reaches the ocean by the end of 2023.
“This is the equivalent of nearly 5 million plastic bottles (500mL). In France, the plastic recycling rate averages around 30% of consumption.
“Through our partnership with Plastic Bank, we will ensure 100% of the plastic sold (for more than a dozen products) is recycled and converted into Social Plastic.
“At the same time, the program has a positive social impact helping people living in coastal communities in developing countries earn a secure income, plus related social benefits.”
To minimize its environmental impact, Horus Pharma is committed to developing innovative solutions through collaborations and innovation.
The firm promotes and supports ecologically responsible practices by using a strategy of coordinated actions and efforts so that they spread throughout its sector.
The company’s two main goals are to collaborate and act together to minimize its environmental impact and educate ophthalmologists about the effects of their medical practices.
Started in September 2022, the Eco’ Ophtalmo program includes initiatives like an environmental and social commitment to reach Plastic Net Zero and develop recyclable packaging.
Meanwhile, Plastic Bank empowers ethical recycling in vulnerable coastal areas and reprocesses plastic waste for reintroduction into the global manufacturing supply chain.
The organization and its partners have so far collected more than 63,200 tonnes of plastic in coastal areas, preventing it from ending up in the oceans.
