Iyris partners with Hyma Plastic for sustainable solutions in Egypt

EGYPT – Iyris (formerly RedSea), a global leader in sustainable AgriTech focused on heat reduction solutions for covered agriculture, has announced a strategic partnership with Hyma Plastic, Egypt’s leading producer of agricultural polyethylene film products.

The partnership grants Hyma Plastic exclusive rights to manufacture, supply, and distribute Iyris’ award-winning SecondSky greenhouse covers in Egypt.

This collaboration ensures Egyptian growers have access to Iyris’ advanced heat-blocking technology, which is supported by Hyma Plastic’s world-class manufacturing capabilities and extensive local distribution network.

Simon Stockil, Growth Director for EMEA at Iyris, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, “We are excited to collaborate with Hyma Plastic to make our heat-blocking greenhouse film technology more accessible in Egypt.

“This agreement accelerates the deployment of SecondSky AGRI greenhouse films across Egypt, aligning with our mission to provide scalable, sustainable solutions that address the unique challenges faced by farmers in hot climates.”

Innovative heat reduction technology

The secondSky AGRI greenhouse films, a product of Iyris, are engineered to effectively block near-infrared heat radiation, thereby significantly reducing the impact of high temperatures on crops.

This innovative technology has been rigorously tested in Egypt, including a successful 25-hectare installation at a government-owned site managed by international grower Lokal Harvest, demonstrating its reliability and effectiveness in local conditions.

By extending the growing season and reducing energy and water consumption by over 30%, the SecondSky technology offers significant benefits to farmers, with many experiencing a return on investment within a single crop cycle.

Aly Samy Fahmy, Deputy CEO of Hyma Plastic—Hyma Foam, highlighted the partnership’s importance for local growers, “Our customers’ crops face severe heat stress in greenhouses, and adding a globally recognized heat-blocking technology like SecondSky to our product portfolio is essential for securing yield, quality, and profitability.

“This innovation reinforces our commitment to being at the forefront of agricultural solutions.”

Expanding market reach in Egypt

The partnership with Hyma Plastic follows Iyris’ earlier Memorandum of Understanding with Magrabi Agriculture, Egypt’s leading fresh produce provider to 60 countries, reflecting growing demand for Iyris’ sustainable agricultural solutions.

Iyris’ technologies are now used by growers in 11 countries across five continents, with their SecondSky AGRI products now available in Egypt through Hyma Plastic, offering farmers innovative tools to overcome the challenges of extreme heat while improving productivity and sustainability.
