NIGERIA – Jospong Group of Companies, a Ghanaian conglomerate with diverse interests across Africa, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lagos State Government in Nigeria to provide recycling, treatment, and processing solutions of waste.

Under this agreement, Jospong Group, already renowned for its superior sanitation services across Africa, will leverage its cutting-edge technology and expertise to assist the Lagos State Government in waste management.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by members of the House of Assembly, local waste collection associations, and state officials.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies, expressed the company’s commitment to collaborating with and enhancing the capacity of its Nigerian counterparts.

He outlined a comprehensive plan to establish sustainable waste management infrastructure, including material recovery facilities, mobile transfer loading stations, landfill repurposing initiatives, and the supply of self-tipping tricycles and bins.

Dr. Agyepong emphasized the importance of sustainable environmental solutions, highlighting their potential to improve carbon ratings and generate funds for infrastructural development.

He expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing Jospong’s dedication to contributing positively to waste management in Nigeria.

Furthermore, Dr. Agyepong highlighted Jospong’s track record of establishing 58 sustainable sanitation infrastructures, including recycling and compost plants, which have significantly contributed to economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Addressing stakeholders, Dr. Agyepong clarified that Jospong Group’s focus is on providing solutions rather than engaging in waste collection directly.

He assured downstream operators of support through equipment provision in collaboration with the Lagos State Government agencies.

He emphasized the importance of turning waste into valuable resources and highlighted the MoU as a Public-Private Partnership aimed at achieving this goal.

Additionally, Mrs. Samata Gifty Bukari, the Consul General of Ghana to Lagos, hailed the collaboration as a significant step towards improving sanitation in Lagos State and strengthening bilateral ties between Ghana and Nigeria.

She expressed confidence in the success of the project and urged Jospong’s management to ensure its fruition.
