UK – Paper and packaging company, Mondi has added a new range of medium, high and very high-barrier paper-based packaging to its FunctionalBarrier Papers portfolio.
The new line of packaging is intended to offer better product protection and support customers to use more environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
Mondi has further developed its portfolio and now provides customers with a full range of FunctionalBarrier Papers.
The UK-based firm has developed this line using intensive research and development operations, expertise in paper and plastic, investments in new technologies and increased capacity.
The new packaging solutions can be used for several applications using various barrier technologies, such as extrusion coatings, aqueous coatings, and other very high barriers.
Thomas Ott, CEO Flexible Packaging, Mondi said: “We live by our approach of using paper where possible, plastic when useful and our range of FunctionalBarrier Paper is a perfect example of this.
“There is more than one way for our customers to achieve their sustainability goals and our unique market position and value chain means we can tailor our solutions to meet their needs.
“We develop packaging solutions that are sustainable by design while still providing the necessary protection for their products.
“This is in line with our Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030) commitment to make all our packaging solutions reusable, recyclable and compostable.”
According to Mondi, the high barrier functional paper offers a medium oxygen and water vapor barrier as well as a high grease and mineral oil barrier for frozen foods and chocolates, the packaging firm added.
The company adds that the very high barrier solution offers product protection from water vapor and oxygen and ensures a long shelf life for consumer food goods, including coffee, cereals, and confectionery.
According to the firm, all of the FunctionalBarrier Paper line’s production is done entirely in-house using its integrated value chain.
The new addition comes a week after the packaging firm partnered with Spain’s Noel Alimentaria to pack its rebranded range of sliced plant-based food in Mondi’s PerFORMing paper-based tray.
Mondi said that PerFORMing’s effective barrier defense against moisture and oxygen keeps the food fresh throughout the storage and distribution processes.
