Omantel partners with Be’ah to strengthen Oman’s e-waste management systems

The two organizations aim to drive a meaningful shift in the sector’s overall performance and efficiency.

OMAN — Omantel has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (Be’ah) to enhance electronic-waste management across the Sultanate, advancing shared sustainability goals and supporting national priorities under Oman Vision 2040.

The partnership aims to strengthen the efficiency of e-waste collection, processing, and recycling programs nationwide while raising public awareness about proper disposal of electronic and electrical devices.

A joint working team will coordinate the design and rollout of community initiatives, assess their impact, and identify emerging avenues for cooperation.

Electronic waste in Oman includes discarded telecommunications and IT devices, such as mobile phones, computers, servers, routers, and modems, alongside household electrical appliances that have reached end-of-life.

With the steady rise in device usage, both organizations say the need for a coordinated, technology-driven e-waste system is now more critical than ever.

As part of the collaboration, Omantel and Be’ah have begun working with Evergreen Gulf Recycling Hub to ensure that electronic waste collected through various channels flows to certified recycling facilities.

This approach aims to curb informal disposal practices and promote environmentally responsible recovery of materials.

The agreement also looks into the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies within Be’ah’s facilities to support real-time monitoring, enhance transparency, and optimize operations.

By combining Omantel’s digital infrastructure capabilities with Be’ah’s sectoral expertise, the partners expect to deliver improved decision-making and greater system-wide efficiency.

Lujaina Al-Kharusi, Vice President of Governance, Regulatory and Compliance at Omantel, said the partnership reflects a shared vision to strengthen national sustainability outcomes.

“As the electronic-waste management sector continues to evolve, our collaboration with Be’ah reflects a shared vision to build a more sustainable Oman. Omantel is proud to leverage its technological strengths to support innovation, efficiency, and resilience in this important sector.”

Dr. Mohab Ali Al-Hinai, Vice President of Sustainability & Circular Economy at Be’ah, added that the agreement marks a major step forward.

“By combining modern technologies with our operational expertise, we aim to drive a qualitative transformation in this vital sector and strengthen Oman’s position as a regional hub for environmental innovation and sustainable technology.”

The two organizations have been long-standing partners in advancing environmental sustainability.

Earlier this year, Omantel and Be’ah received the Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Award 2025, recognizing their impact in accelerating circular-economy initiatives across the region.
