GERMANY – Schreiner MediPharm, the pharmaceutical labels division of Schreiner Group, has launched innovative light protection labels designed for syringes containing light-sensitive active ingredients (APIs) such as biologics and biosimilars.
Exposure to UV and light rays can degrade these sensitive drugs, reducing their efficacy and shelf life. To address this challenge, Schreiner MediPharm has developed customized light protection labels to meet the specific requirements of such APIs.
These functional labels are compatible with all common syringe types and sizes, including those with needles or Luer lock adapters.
The light protection labels are available in three levels, each offering varying degrees of shielding against harmful light exposure.
Level 1 provides effective UV protection while incorporating a transparent inspection window. This allows users to check the syringe contents without compromising protection.
Level 2 extends this protection to blue light, a spectrum known to impact light-sensitive formulations. This level also features a semi-transparent window, enabling clear visibility of the fill level while maintaining the necessary shielding.
Level 3 offers complete light blockage for maximum protection, ensuring that even the most sensitive APIs remain unaffected by light exposure.
Additionally, this level can be equipped with a resealable inspection window, allowing healthcare professionals to check the syringe contents in their original colour without exposing them to light.
Schreiner MediPharm’s light protection labels are available in three specialized types, each designed for a specific function.
The Light-Protect-Label shields the syringe barrel, preventing direct light exposure while maintaining ease of use.
The Syringe-Closure-Wrap Label goes further by offering full coverage of the syringe barrel and cap, integrating a first-opening indication feature for added security.
The Cap-Lock Label has been specifically developed for the Schott Toppac infuse syringe, which requires a higher level of protection and security.
This label provides enhanced light protection and includes a reliable first-opening indication to ensure product integrity.
Additionally, features such as graduated markings for precise dosing and documentation labels can be integrated to improve efficiency.
Schreiner MediPharm ensures these labels are customized for COC and glass syringes and can be processed without heat exposure.
Enhancing pharmaceutical packaging security
Beyond light protection, Schreiner MediPharm continues to advance pharmaceutical security solutions. Last December, the company introduced a cut-through indicator function for closure seals, designed to improve packaging integrity and deter tampering.
Unlike conventional security features, this modular indicator can be customized for different closure seals, materials, and designs, making it highly adaptable to pharmaceutical needs.
Compliant with ISO 21976 and the European Falsified Medicines Directive 2011/62/EU, the cut-through indicator meets the highest international security standards.
Once the seal is cut, tampering becomes irreversibly visible, protecting pharmaceutical products from unauthorized access.
With these innovations, Schreiner MediPharm continues enhancing drug protection and packaging security, offering tailored solutions to pharmaceutical companies worldwide.
