Once these bags are filled with used pods, customers can conveniently drop them off nationwide at any 6,500 Yodel drop-off locations.
Additionally, Podback offers kerbside collection services for 1.5 million households across 21 UK local authorities for added convenience.
The strengthened partnership between Starbucks and Podback underscores their shared dedication to sustainability, particularly in light of the significant environmental impact of coffee pod consumption in the UK, with an estimated 800 million coffee pods purchased last year alone.
Jacqui Wetherly, Starbucks UK’s sustainability director, emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of its coffee products and expressed delight in offering customers an easier way to recycle their pods through Starbucks outlets.
Rick Hindley, Executive Director at Podback, hailed the partnership with Starbucks as a testament to Podback’s progress in establishing a convenient and straightforward recycling solution for coffee pod users. He noted that Starbucks’ support makes it even more accessible for customers to participate in recycling efforts.
All coffee pods collected by Podback are recycled within the UK, with used aluminium pods repurposed into beverage cans and plastic pods transformed into various products, including supermarket crates and building materials. Moreover, leftover coffee grounds undergo anaerobic digestion, generating biogas and soil improver.
Last year, Morrisons teamed up with Podback to introduce recycling points for coffee machine pods in 29 stores, marking a significant step towards providing customers with an easy and convenient recycling service.
Customers are reminded that Podback recycling bags are color-coded to facilitate separating aluminium and plastic pods, ensuring efficient recycling practices.
