Egypt’s packaging market is projected to grow to US$ 5.08m by 2031.

EGYPT – Tetra Pak has appointed Stelios Mourouglakis as Managing Director for its Egypt Area, effective 1 November 2025, marking a significant leadership transition as the company accelerates its regional growth plans.
Based in Cairo, Mourouglakis will oversee Tetra Pak’s operations across Egypt and neighbouring markets, bringing more than 14 years of experience within the business.
He joined Tetra Pak in 2010 and has since held key commercial and leadership roles, most recently serving as Sales Director for Central Eurasia since 2022.
His career includes several positions that strengthened his expertise in both the Greek and Egyptian markets, including Key Account Director, Key Account Manager, and Account Manager.
“Serving as Key Account Director in Egypt for over four years allowed me to build strong relationships with our customers and partners,” Mourouglakis said.
“Returning to Cairo feels like coming home. Egypt is a dynamic and fast-evolving market with immense potential across the food and beverage value chain.”
He noted that Egypt continues to play a central role in Tetra Pak’s regional strategy, driven by strong customer partnerships and growing demand for innovative processing and packaging solutions.
Mourouglakis also highlighted Libya as a promising frontier with a young population and increasing consumer appetite for new products.
The appointment comes at a time when Tetra Pak is expanding its footprint in North Africa. In July, the company partnered with Zulfa to launch a €14 million flagship greenfield project in Libya—its first major industrial investment in the country.
The 140,000-square-meter facility in Benghazi, finalized in late 2024, will introduce advanced packaging and processing solutions to the Libyan market for the first time.
The site will feature integrated processing units, including UHT and pasteurization systems, along with three initial filling lines, with operations expected to begin in early 2026.
At the time of the announcement, Wael Khoury, outgoing Managing Director of Tetra Pak Egypt Area, emphasized the project’s significance, “Launching our first greenfield project in Libya is a major step forward in our strategy to unlock high-growth markets.
“This investment reflects our commitment to economic and industrial development across the region.”
Tetra Pak is also set to participate in Pacprocess Middle East Africa from December 9 to 12, where Mourouglakis confirmed the company will showcase end-to-end solutions designed to boost efficiency, reduce waste, and support sustainable growth—key priorities for the company’s next phase in the region.
The leadership transition underscores Tetra Pak’s broader focus on strengthening its presence in North Africa’s fast-evolving food and beverage sector, building on rising demand for safe, efficient, and sustainable packaging solutions.
