Under the MoU, Zoomlion will provide its experience in integrated waste management, while Geo Pomona will contribute local knowledge and operational capacity within Zimbabwe’s waste management sector.

GHANA – Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Zimbabwe’s Geo Pomona Waste Management have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen waste management systems through technology sharing, technical expertise, and best practices.
The agreement was signed at Peduase Lodge in Accra in the presence of senior government officials and private sector representatives from both countries.
The partnership focuses on collaboration in waste management operations to improve sanitation and environmental sustainability across Zimbabwe’s urban centers.
Officials indicated that the collaboration will support efforts to address challenges associated with rapid urbanization, increasing waste volumes, and environmental concerns.
What Zoomlion Brings to the Table
Zoomlion has established itself as a major player in Ghana’s waste management landscape, operating over 36 waste recycling and processing facilities across the country.
The company’s integrated waste management approach covers collection, processing, recycling, and disposal systems, expertise that Geo Pomona will leverage to enhance its operations in Zimbabwe.
Under the MoU, Zoomlion will provide its experience in integrated waste management, while Geo Pomona will contribute local knowledge and operational capacity within Zimbabwe’s waste management sector.
A Blueprint for Intra-African Collaboration
The partnership is seen as part of broader efforts to encourage intra-African collaboration and the exchange of homegrown solutions to development challenges.
Rather than importing technologies from outside the continent, the agreement leverages proven models from within Africa that are adapted to local conditions, regulatory frameworks, and infrastructure realities.
For Zimbabwe, this means access to waste management systems designed for similar urban challenges, not technologies developed for European or North American contexts.
What This Means for Waste Management
If successfully implemented, the partnership will contribute to cleaner urban environments, improved landfill management, increased recycling activities, and job creation in Zimbabwe.
The collaboration is also expected to promote sustainable waste management practices, including recycling and waste-to-energy initiatives, sectors where Zoomlion has developed significant operational experience in Ghana.
For the waste management industry across Africa, the Zoomlion-Geo Pomona partnership offers a replicable model of cross-border collaboration.
Instead of each country developing waste management infrastructure in isolation, the agreement demonstrates that proven operators can export expertise within the continent, accelerating the adoption of best practices and reducing the learning curve for emerging waste management sectors.
