AFRICA – Ace Green Recycling, a leading provider of sustainable battery recycling technology, has entered into a strategic partnership with Spiro, a key player in Africa’s electric vehicle (EV) sector, to strengthen the circular battery value chain on the continent.
Under the agreement, Ace will recycle end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, and waste from Spiro’s battery manufacturing operations. Spiro has also designated Ace as its exclusive global preferred recycling partner.
The two companies will collaborate to establish co-located recycling centers near Spiro’s collection hubs, leveraging Ace’s proprietary, environmentally friendly recycling technology.
The initiative aims to ensure safe battery handling and disposal while supporting Spiro’s sustainable expansion across Africa.

Ace Green Recycling’s LithiumFirst technology plays a key role in this effort, enabling the efficient and environmentally friendly recycling of lithium-ion battery materials.

Ace expands battery recycling operations in India
This collaboration follows Ace Green Recycling’s recent milestone—a finalized site agreement to establish India’s most extensive battery recycling facility in Mundra, Gujarat.
Since 2023, Ace has been recycling lithium-ion batteries, including LFP chemistries. The company plans to develop a 10,000-tonne-per-year LFP battery recycling capacity in India by 2026.
The deployment of its LithiumFirst technology in India will be phased. It utilizes a fully electrified, room-temperature hydrometallurgical process that produces zero Scope 1 carbon emissions and no liquid or solid waste.
Ace’s technology enables lithium recovery rates of around 75% from LFP batteries, producing over 99% purity of lithium carbonate.
Mundra’s strategic location near major ports, handling over 10% of India’s maritime cargo, enhances the efficiency of recycling feedstock transport and product distribution.
Additionally, Ace Green Recycling will process lead batteries at its Mundra facility using an electric process that produces zero Scope 1 emissions.
“LFP is set to dominate the lithium battery market by 2030, and Ace is strategically scaling our recycling capacity to meet demand,” said Chadha.
“We believe our ability to recycle LFP batteries sustainably gives us a first-mover advantage. Our recent visits to battery recycling facilities in China reaffirm that our LFP technology is more advanced, despite China’s larger and more mature lithium-ion recycling ecosystem.”
According to Vipin Tyagi, Ace’s Chief Technology Officer, the company’s technology allows for the profitable recycling of LFP batteries—even in a low-lithium-price market—by recovering significant amounts of critical minerals.
