Coveris rebrands German medical packaging facilities as MediFlex

GERMANY – Coveris has consolidated its medical packaging offerings under the new MediFlex brand, following substantial investments to expand production capabilities and advance sustainable packaging solutions at its facilities in Rohrdorf and Halle, Germany.

Jan-Willem Bruijsten, Segment Director of Medical at Coveris, highlighted the rationale behind this rebranding and investment.

“Demand for high-quality, sustainable medical packaging is steadily rising, and we have responded with over €8 million in investments to enhance capacity and expertise in medical device packaging at our German facilities,” Bruijsten said.

This funding has helped upgrade more than 45 years of specialized medical device production, now meeting top medical standards such as ISO Class 7 cleanroom manufacturing.

The MediFlex brand aims to distinguish Coveris’ medical packaging products from its other non-food applications, emphasizing its heritage and focus on medical packaging excellence.

The rebranding also underscores Coveris’ commitment to a clean, safe production environment and sustainable packaging solutions, such as state-of-the-art recyclable, flexible mono materials.

Furthermore, all medical packaging under MediFlex is produced using renewable electricity, aligning with Coveris’ “No Waste” principles.

Coveris previously announced expansions in May, with plans to add two new pouch lines and one header bag line at its Rohrdorf facility by the end of 2024.

These new lines will enhance existing production capabilities and are expected to improve service efficiency.

The Rohrdorf facility, operational since May 2021, has been designed to meet the highest medical packaging standards, including ISO Class 7 cleanroom certification.

Meanwhile, the Halle site will receive a new cast extrusion line by early 2025, further expanding the company’s capacity for medical packaging production.

CEO Christian Kolarik expressed the company’s vision for the MediFlex initiative. “We are upgrading our sites to strengthen our medical segment and meet the growing demand for high-performance medical packaging,” Kolarik said.

“Alongside a clean and safe production environment, sustainability is a priority. The new cast line will enable us to develop innovative, recyclable monomaterial-based packaging for the medical industry. Both facilities operate under our No Waste strategy, utilizing renewable electricity resources.”

This rebranding and investment signify Coveris’ dedication to producing sustainable, high-quality medical packaging solutions that meet evolving industry demands.
