Defender-Lok is designed to fit into existing capping and filling operations

USA – Closure Systems International (CSI) has unveiled Defender-Lok, an innovative child-resistant closure (CRC) platform designed for the over-the-counter (OTC) and nutraceutical sectors.
According to the company, the system prioritizes safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
Defender-Lok integrates seamlessly into existing capping and filling operations, minimizing downtime, feeder jams, and sealing issues.
Its design enhances production efficiency and streamlines validation processes, ensuring consistent output for manufacturers.
The platform has earned certification for child resistance while remaining user-friendly for older adults, addressing key safety concerns for both producers and consumers.
“In the OTC and nutraceutical market, child-resistant closures demonstrate a brand’s commitment to consumer safety and regulatory compliance,” said Chuck Newswanger, CSI’s Director of Global Commercial Innovation and Technical Development for Pharmaceutical Packaging.
“A well-engineered design meets the expectations of today’s health-conscious shoppers, ensures compliance, and integrates seamlessly with high-speed filling and capping lines.”
In response to increasing extended producer responsibility regulations, such as California’s Senate Bill 54 (SB-54), the platform minimizes material use, reducing resin consumption and shipping weight.
A report by CSI indicates that select stock-keeping units already surpass SB-54’s 2027 targets, and all closures can be produced using PolyCycle, CSI’s fully recyclable post-consumer recycled resin.
Available in multiple formats, including 33mm, 38mm, 45mm, and 53mm sizes, Defender-Lok supports both dry and liquid products.
Its tamper-evident features and compatibility with various liner types, such as foam, induction seal, and pressure-sensitive liners, make it adaptable to diverse market needs.
Recent industry developments underscore the growing focus on sustainable packaging.
In a statement from a leading packaging solutions provider, innovations in mono-material caps, which align with recycling streams for PET and HDPE, are gaining traction due to upcoming regulatory requirements.
This trend complements Defender-Lok’s eco-friendly design, positioning it as a forward-thinking solution in the evolving packaging landscape.
Defender-Lok’s launch marks a significant step toward balancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
By addressing regulatory demands and consumer expectations, CSI is setting a new standard for child-resistant closures in the OTC and nutraceutical markets, offering manufacturers a reliable and environmentally conscious packaging solution.
