FACHPACK 2024: SÜDPACK to showcase sustainable packaging innovations

GERMANY – SÜDPACK, a leading film manufacturer, is set to highlight its commitment to sustainable packaging solutions at the upcoming FACHPACK trade show in Nuremberg, Germany.

The company will unveil a range of innovative products and services designed to help businesses create greener and more profitable packaging processes.

A key focus for SÜDPACK is its Pure-Line range, which consists of recyclable, single-material films made from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE).

These films reduce carbon footprints compared to traditional materials and maintain high standards of product quality and safety.

They are versatile, with applications ranging from thermoformed packaging and trays to pouches for various food products.

Among the new offerings, SÜDPACK will introduce a PP-based solution for coffee stand-up pouches, which reduces the carbon footprint by over 30% compared to polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/aluminum composites.

Other innovations include the (Multi-)Peel PET floatable solution, designed for easier recycling, and the Multifol Extreme film, which offers a 30% thinner alternative to conventional polyamide/PE structures without compromising performance.

Expanding its product range beyond films, SÜDPACK now offers recyclable monomaterials for stand-up pouches, with or without reclose systems, suitable for packaging nuts, snacks, spices, and other dry goods.

The company has also partnered with SN Maschinenbau and MENSHEN to provide in-house production solutions for spouted pouches.

To further support customers in their sustainability efforts, SÜDPACK has developed the EcoTrace life cycle assessment (LCA) tool, which evaluates the environmental impact of packaging solutions throughout their life cycle.

The company’s Flow Pack PurePP films have also achieved International Organization for Standardization 14040/44 certifications.

SÜDPACK actively contributes to the circular economy by investing in chemical recycling technology through its majority stake in CARBOLIQ.

This innovative process converts plastic waste into a mineral oil substitute, which can then be used to produce new films.

Visitors to the SÜDPACK booth at FACHPACK will have the opportunity to explore these sustainable packaging solutions and discuss potential collaborations.

In May of this year, SÜDPACK partnered with Zotefoams to scale up the production of ReZorce, a mono-material barrier packaging made from high-density polyethylene.

ReZorce is designed as a sustainable alternative to traditional beverage cartons, offering excellent barrier properties and superior recyclability.

The partnership with SÜDPACK, a specialist in film extrusion, will enable Zotefoams to increase its production capacity by an additional 100 million ReZorce cartons annually. An initial three-year agreement is in place, with the potential for extension.
