FACHPAK 2024: GEA to present new thermoforming packaging machine for small and medium-sized companies in the food sector

GERMANY – GEA is set to introduce its latest advancements in machine and control technology for the food sector under the theme “RE:THINK PACKAGING” at Fachpack in Nuremberg, Germany, from September 24 to 26 (Hall 7A/Stand 563).

The spotlight will be on the new PowerPak 1000 thermoformer, designed specifically for small and medium-sized companies in the food industry, including those packaging meat, meat substitutes, poultry, and cheese.

This entry-level thermoforming machine offers advanced features that were once exclusive to higher-performance models.

“We are excited to present the PowerPak 1000 to a broader audience,” said Stefan Runkel, Product Manager Thermoforming at GEA Food Application Solutions.

“With this machine, we can now help smaller companies enhance the efficiency of their packaging processes and boost their output by offering them our extensive expertise and flexible service.”

The PowerPak 1000 is an ideal solution for businesses transitioning from traditional vacuum chamber machines or tray sealers.

It offers increased capacity, flexibility in pack size, and reduced plastic consumption. It can produce vacuum, MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging), or skin packs, enabling companies to quickly adapt to changing consumer demands.

This innovative packaging machine will be available for live demonstrations and testing at the GEA Technology and Application Center XLAB in Biedenkopf-Wallau, Germany.

Another standout at Fachpack will be the SmartPacker CX400, a vertical pillow bag packaging machine.

This form-fill-seal model is designed for high capacity and maximum productivity, producing four different types of pouches for a variety of products, including frozen and fresh fruits, vegetables, potatoes, and protein foods.

The SmartPacker CX400 processes bag widths ranging from 55 mm to 400 mm and can produce up to 120 bags per minute.

Key benefits of the CX400 include rapid changeover of bag formats and film types in under five minutes, and sensitive detection of product in the seal.

Hand-crafted forming shoulders with high-tech composite surfaces ensure smooth film transport, even in humid or wet environments.

Additionally, the Smart Sealing System of the CX400 can seal up to one million bags before requiring a replacement of the sealing strips, which can be done quickly with the click-and-go device, minimizing downtime and maximizing output.
