Flügger uses the new container across its product portfolio, serving both professional painters and private customers.

DENMARK – Danish paint manufacturer Flügger, in partnership with global packaging leader Amcor, has launched a new paint container made with 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.
The initiative, rolled out in autumn 2024, aims to reduce reliance on virgin plastic while maintaining packaging quality and user experience, according to a company statement.
The container, now available across Flügger’s European and Asian markets, features a custom blue design with color-coded lids to enhance brand recognition and help users, particularly professional painters, identify paint types quickly.
Casper Paggio Hansson Felt, Flügger’s communications and culture manager, said, “We wanted a solution that delivered on quality and visual appeal while using recycled materials.”
He added that feedback from consumers and retail partners has been highly positive, praising the container’s practical design.
The packaging complies with voluntary eco-labeling schemes, such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, widely recognized in Scandinavia.
Flügger’s long-standing collaboration with Amcor was key to developing this solution, with Hansson Felt noting that Amcor’s understanding of their needs ensured a high-quality outcome.
In related sustainable packaging developments, a report by Packaging Europe highlights that Mondi and Sherwin-Williams introduced recyclable spouted pouches for concentrated paint refills earlier this year.
These pouches encourage consumers to reuse existing plastic tubs, seal remaining contents for freshness, and recycle the empty pouches.
Additionally, Berry’s high-quality PCR polymer, used in non-contact-sensitive components like lids and handles, is estimated to cut CO2 emissions by 36,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to producing 26 million five-liter paint containers.
Amcor has also advanced other eco-friendly packaging solutions. In a statement, the company detailed its new polypropylene closure for household products, which integrates child resistance, reduced weight, and recyclability.
Another innovation includes CleanStream PCR polypropylene used in Maison Guerlain’s recyclable hand cream packaging.
A recent update from Packaging Europe indicates that Amcor partnered with PepsiCo and INEOS to launch Sunbites snack packaging with 50% recycled plastic in the UK and Ireland in late 2023.
This packaging, certified under the ISCC PLUS scheme, uses advanced recycling to meet strict EU food-contact regulations, further demonstrating Amcor’s commitment to sustainable packaging.
