The investment aims to bring the company’s long-term commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability to the region

SCOTLAND – Guala Closures, a global leader in innovative closure solutions, has opened a state-of-the-art production facility in Gartcosh, Scotland.
The US$69 million investment demonstrates the company’s ongoing efforts to advance eco-friendly manufacturing and strengthen the local economy by creating over 300 skilled jobs.
Strategically located in Scotland’s renowned whisky region, the 20,000-square-meter facility is set to serve both major global brands and smaller producers.
According to a company statement, the site already supplies over 100 distilleries, strengthening Guala Closures’ integration into the Scotch whisky industry, which contributed US$9.2 billion to the economy in 2024, including US$7.2 billion in exports.
The project received a substantial grant of over US$4.09 million from Scottish Enterprise, highlighting its national and international significance.
The Gartcosh plant incorporates advanced technologies, including Guala Closures’ patented Electro Magnetic Forming process, alongside robotic systems and flexible automation.
These innovations enable the production of tamper-evident seals, enhancing product safety and bottling efficiency.
“With this investment, we are strengthening our roots in a region that is globally iconic, reinforcing our commitment to the Scotch whisky industry, and setting a new benchmark in sustainable, high-performance packaging,” said Andrea Lodetti, CEO of Guala Closures.
“The facility is designed for maximum efficiency and scalability, allowing us to optimize operations and create tangible value for our customers and our business.”
The facility design features 2.4MW of solar panels, advanced insulation, and airtight systems to boost energy efficiency.
A siphonic drainage system with sustainable urban drainage and attenuation tanks ensures responsible water management, while the plant’s internal layout minimizes material movement and forklift traffic.
Energy-efficient LED lighting with motion sensors and timers further reduces the environmental footprint.
Beyond manufacturing, the facility houses a dedicated R&D hub focused on high-end closures, complementing Guala Closures’ global network of 37 production sites and seven R&D centers.
This addition strengthens the company’s ability to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions tailored to premium spirits brands.
In a related development, recent industry updates indicate Guala Closures is exploring further sustainability initiatives, including the use of recycled polymers in closure production.
This move builds on their recent acquisition of the remaining 30% stake in Guala Closures Bulgaria in December 2024, expanding their global reach.
