AFRICA – Danish printing press manufacturer Nilpeter is strengthening its footprint in Africa, recognizing the continent’s growing demand for high-quality labels and flexible packaging.
As part of its expansion strategy, the company plans to participate in six key trade exhibitions across Africa throughout the year.
Africa’s packaging market was valued at US$43.48 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.85% through 2029, according to Nilpeter.
While South Africa remains the dominant market, East African countries such as Kenya and Tanzania are emerging as significant growth areas, driven by urbanization, changing consumer preferences, and increased demand for packaged goods.
Key industry trends influencing this growth include the expansion of digital printing, which caters to the rising demand for short-run, high-quality packaging.
Additionally, sustainability initiatives such as the Kenya Plastics Pact are pushing for recyclable packaging and a circular economy.
However, competition is increasing, particularly with offset printers entering the market, applying pressure on pricing and margins.
The continent’s youthful population and rapid urbanization are also fueling demand for flexible packaging and smaller product sizes.
This trend presents a significant opportunity for both flexographic (flexo) and digital printing technologies.
While digital printing is ideal for short-run, customized packaging, flexo printing remains the preferred choice for high-volume production due to its cost-effectiveness and minimal waste, making it a practical solution for African converters adapting to a fast-changing market.
“Africa presents a significant opportunity for growth in the printing and packaging industry. We see strong demand for efficient and reliable solutions that can support local converters in meeting evolving market needs,” said Thomas Andersen, Nilpeter’s area sales manager.
“By participating in six major exhibitions across the continent, we are ensuring that we are close to our customers, listening to their challenges, and showcasing how our flexo technology can provide long-term value.”
Nilpeter will showcase its latest printing solutions at major industry events, including Prinpact Alger (Algeria), ProPak South Africa, ProPak East Africa (Kenya), Ethiopia Plastprintpack, ProPak West Africa (Nigeria), and Print 2 Pack (Egypt).
Several of these exhibitions are organized in collaboration with Nilpeter’s local African partners, reinforcing the company’s commitment to regional customer support and market expansion.
With a strategic focus on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, Nilpeter aims to position itself as a key player in Africa’s evolving packaging landscape.
