GERMANY – Pester pac automation has integrated Solutum Technologies’ innovative film into its portfolio, marking a significant step toward more environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

This partnership enables the use of Solutum’s sustainable film on Pester’s stretch wrapping machines and full overwrapping systems, offering a greener alternative to traditional plastic materials.

Solutum’s film is fully biodegradable in various environments, including soil and water, without leaving harmful microplastics behind.

Its high tear strength allows for reduced material thickness, resulting in substantial material savings while maintaining the durability needed for packaging.

Importantly, this film is compatible with existing Pester systems, making it easy to implement within current production processes and enhancing both cost-efficiency and sustainability.

One of the standout features of Solutum’s film is its potential for local production using existing extrusion machinery, which supports regional economies and reduces transportation emissions. Additionally, the material can lead to considerable energy savings in Pester’s systems, particularly in pneumatic operations.

Solutum’s film has earned multiple certifications, including the Interseroh Made for Recycling certification for paper products and the TÜV Industrial Composting and TÜV Soil Biodegradable certifications.

It also carries the ISO 14020 Water Biodegradable label, emphasizing its environmental compatibility.

Sharon Barak, Solutum’s founder and president, emphasized the product’s environmental benefits, stating that “Solutum’s material decomposes completely at the end of its lifecycle.”

In industrial composting plants, the material biodegrades fully, while in unmanaged environments such as oceans, rivers, and soil, it naturally breaks down without harming ecosystems.

Solutum’s Corporate Director, Daniel Friedmann, added that the film’s mechanical properties often surpass those of traditional plastics. This enables manufacturers to down-gauge their packaging, reducing material use and minimizing waste.

With over 400 million tons of plastic produced annually, around 40% of which is used for packaging, flexible packaging remains a major environmental challenge.

Only about 1% of flexible packaging is recycled, and most end up in landfills, incineration, or polluting the environment.

Solutum’s biodegradable film offers a promising solution to reduce the lasting environmental impact of plastic waste, particularly in developing countries where pollution is most severe.
