Tata Electronics, Bosch ink strategic pact for advanced chip packaging

The partnership aims to create a holistic semiconductor and electronics ecosystem in India.

INDIA – Tata Electronics and German technology giant Robert Bosch GmbH have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in advanced semiconductor packaging and manufacturing, marking another milestone in India’s fast-evolving electronics ecosystem.

Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, and Dirk Kress, Executive Vice President of Semiconductor Operations at Bosch signed the MoU.

Under the agreement, Tata Electronics and Bosch will work together on chip packaging and manufacturing projects at Tata’s upcoming semiconductor assembly and test unit in Assam and its foundry in Gujarat.

The companies will also explore opportunities in Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) for vehicle electronics, reflecting the rising demand for advanced automotive technologies.

Dr. Thakur said the partnership underscores Tata Electronics’ commitment to strengthening India’s semiconductor capabilities, “We are excited to partner with Bosch to help create a robust and reliable supply chain for key technology products.

“This collaboration is well-aligned with our commitment to build a holistic semiconductor and electronics ecosystem in India and resonates with customers around the world.

“Most importantly, it represents a significant step towards creating a leadership position for the Indian electronics manufacturing sector on the global stage.”

Bosch, which is investing heavily in next-generation automotive electronics, highlighted the strategic importance of India as both a manufacturing hub and a growth market.

“Bosch recognizes the increasing demand for advanced automotive electronics and their critical role in shaping the future of mobility,” said Kress.

“To address the growing needs and foster supply chain resilience, Bosch is pleased to partner with Tata Electronics, a key player and innovation leader in the Indian market.”

India’s growing semiconductor ambitions

The collaboration comes at a time when India is positioning itself as a global semiconductor manufacturing destination, supported by a government incentive package worth over US$10 billion to attract investment in chip fabrication, design, and packaging.

Tata Electronics is at the forefront of this drive, with ongoing investments in semiconductor assembly and packaging facilities, which are crucial for reducing India’s reliance on imports.

Bosch’s entry into this partnership reflects both confidence in India’s capabilities and the pressing need for localized supply chains amid global disruptions.

With automotive demand for chips projected to surge, driven by electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and connected mobility, the partnership aims to secure a resilient supply base for both companies while boosting India’s role in the global semiconductor value chain.
