The labels are compatible with standard printing presses and can be applied by hand or machine, making them practical for widespread use.

ISRAEL – TIPA Compostable Packaging and its European subsidiary Bio4Pack have unveiled a new certified home compostable label for fresh produce, designed for a wide range of fruits and vegetables.
According to the company, the label features a pressure-sensitive adhesive that ensures strong attachment to surfaces ranging from smooth banana skins to rougher orange peels, without leaving residue.
This innovation, developed in collaboration with Bio4Life, incorporates BioTak adhesive technology, noted as the world’s first adhesive fully certified to European compost standards.
“Traditional plastic labels on produce often end up in food waste bins, contaminating organic streams and adding to microplastic pollution,” said Daphna Nissenbaum, co-founder and CEO of TIPA.
She emphasized that the new labels decompose alongside organic matter, offering a sustainable alternative that matches the performance of conventional plastics.
The labels are compatible with standard printing presses and can be applied by hand or machine, making them practical for widespread use.
They are also moisture-resistant, maintaining durability in various storage conditions, from room temperature to freezing.
A report by the company highlights that these labels prevent black marks and discoloration often caused by conventional stickers, ensuring produce retains a clean appearance for consumers.
Additionally, the labels serve multiple purposes, including ingredient labeling, branding, barcodes, and closures for food and fashion packaging.
This launch comes as global regulations, such as the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste directive, increasingly mandate compostable labels for fruits and vegetables.
TIPA’s solution is designed to meet these standards, supporting a shift toward sustainable packaging.
The labels are suitable for a variety of produce, including apples, pears, mangoes, avocados, and cucumbers, among others.
In a statement, TIPA noted that the labels were showcased at Packaging Innovations 2025 in the UK, alongside other compostable solutions like bag zippers and high-barrier metalized films.
A recent update from the sustainable packaging sector indicates that TIPA has also introduced compostable trays made from rice waste, further expanding its eco-friendly portfolio.
These trays, available in the U.S., Europe, and Australia, are certified as both compostable and recyclable, offering versatile packaging options for produce and baked goods.
This development complements the new labels, providing growers and retailers with comprehensive sustainable packaging solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing production lines.
