PackSwitch closes the operational gap with a three-step workflow: identifying dish-specific needs, evaluating alternative material performance, and connecting to verified manufacturers.

INDIA – Zomato has launched PackSwitch, an interactive digital platform that connects food service operators with over 100 verified sustainable packaging suppliers, as the food delivery enterprise aims to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives across India’s restaurant industry.
The initiative, unveiled at a Bengaluru event, targets single-use plastic waste at the source by directly connecting restaurants with verified eco-friendly alternatives.
The platform houses a database of over 100 verified suppliers nationwide, including Eternal’s B2B supply hub Hyperpure, which services over 100,000 restaurant outlets across India.
The launch event featured an immersive material exhibition demonstrating eight sustainable barrier coatings and primary materials under real-world delivery stress, addressing practical parameters such as grease resistance, humidity retention, and end-of-life processing.
Bridging Intent and Action for Sustainable Packaging Adoption
Single-use packaging in urban food delivery remains a persistent environmental bottleneck.
While commercial intent to transition away from plastics is high, kitchen operators frequently encounter hurdles surrounding thermal performance, cost parity, and supply chain reliability.
PackSwitch bridges this operational gap through a structured three-step workflow: identifying dish-specific requirements, assessing alternative material performance, and connecting directly with verified manufacturers.
Prashanth Prakash, Founding Partner at Accel India, stated that initiatives such as PackSwitch could help restaurants move from good intentions to practical action and contribute towards reducing plastic pollution in cities.
To complete the demand cycle, Zomato has integrated a low plastic packaging tag and dedicated filter within its consumer app, allowing eco-conscious diners to actively discover and support restaurants implementing lower-footprint packaging models.
Zomato’s Plastic-Free Future Campaign and Impact
PackSwitch builds upon Zomato’s Plastic-Free Future campaign, organized alongside Startup India and DPIIT, which has onboarded over 10,000 recognized restaurant partners across 500 cities.
As of 31 March 2026, participating kitchens have delivered more than 100 million orders using low-plastic alternatives.
Anjali Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer of Eternal Limited, stated that sustainability is an integral part of the company’s approach across its businesses, and while the Plastic-Free Future program has focused on building awareness among consumers, PackSwitch takes the effort further by helping restaurants make packaging choices based on individual dishes.
