ABG launches Italian office to advance sustainable label solutions in europe

The office will help ABG listen more closely to customer needs and respond faster by having a “boots on the ground” presence in Italy.

UK – A B Graphic International (ABG), a key player in print finishing equipment for labels and packaging, has revealed plans for a new office in Italy set to open later this year.

Located in Assago near Milan, ABG Italy will operate under the leadership of managing director Angelo Tribocco, who brings over 30 years of industry expertise.

The office marks ABG’s latest step to deepen its European operations, building on years of collaboration with local label producers.

In a statement, Tribocco expressed enthusiasm for the integration.

He noted that his team in Assago has cultivated strong ties with Italian clients over decades, and the formal establishment of ABG Italy will allow for expanded technical support and faster response times.

“We have built a solid foundation here,” Tribocco said, “and now we can scale our efforts to meet growing demands in flexible and sustainable packaging.”

The initiative comes at a time when Italy’s packaging sector faces stricter environmental rules.

A report from Tetra Tech highlights that the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, effective since February 2025, requires producers to prioritize recyclable materials and reduce waste by August 2026.

Companies must register with CONAI, Italy’s national packaging consortium, and contribute to extended producer responsibility programs.

Non-compliance could lead to fines exceeding US$10,000 per violation, pushing firms toward eco-friendly designs.

ABG’s equipment, including digital finishing machines, supports this shift by enabling precise die-cutting and waste reduction in label production.

Global sales director Matt Burton emphasized the practical benefits during a recent industry briefing.

He explained that the new office ensures on-site expertise for customers developing recyclable or compostable labels.

“It’s about having dedicated support to match the service levels our partners rely on,” Burton stated.

According to a McKinsey survey released in June, 51% of global consumers across 11 countries, including Italy, view environmental impact as a top factor in packaging choices, with many willing to pay up to 10% more for recyclable options.

In the US, the post-consumer recycled plastic packaging market is projected to reach US$51.84 billion by 2034, driven by innovations like mechanically recycled polyethylene.

Earlier this month, A B Graphic International (ABG), introduced its new division, ABG Flex Pack.

The initiative integrates the company’s long-standing capabilities in lamination and finishing to offer complete solutions for the flexible packaging sector.

With installations of thermal laminators, pouch finishing systems like the Digicon 3000, and shrink sleeve machines across global markets, ABG now channels these assets into a focused unit.

The division targets the expanding flexibles market by combining equipment for coating, lamination, pouch production, and additional processes under one roof.

A key element of ABG Flex Pack is the rollout of the ThermoLam, a new compact thermal laminator.
