Amcor stood out at the 2025 Flexible Packaging Association Awards with two winning solutions, both recognized for their impact on sustainability and innovation.
SWITZERLAND – Packaging giant Amcor has been recognized for its leadership in sustainable innovation, receiving two Silver Awards in the Sustainability category at the 2025 Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards.
The awards was presented during the Flexible Packaging Association’s (FPA) Annual Meeting in Aventura, Florida.
“We are honored to be recognized by the FPA for innovations that are making a difference for our customers and the environment,” said Brian Carvill, Vice President of Research and Development at Amcor Flexibles North America.
“These awards highlight how our advances in material science and packaging technology are driving sustainable growth for our partners.”
This year’s competition drew 226 entries, with only 20 winners selected for outstanding innovation, technical excellence, and sustainability impact.
Amcor stood out at the 2025 Flexible Packaging Association Awards with two winning solutions, both recognized for their impact on sustainability and innovation.
Amcor Moda Vacuum Packaging for U.S. Beef Exports
One of these was the Amcor Moda Vacuum Packaging for U.S. Beef Exports, a streamlined system that brings operational efficiency while significantly lowering the environmental footprint.
The Moda system integrates tubular rollstock with on-demand bag-making technology, offering meat processors a smarter way to package fresh products.
Already deployed in U.S. beef export operations, this solution delivers up to 30% savings in material costs.
It also helps reduce packaging inventory and SKUs by enabling on-the-fly printing directly onto the packaging, eliminating the need for pre-printed bags.
By switching from traditional shrink bag boxes to tubestock shipped on pallets, producers can cut transportation and storage needs by 40%.
One pallet of Amcor’s tubestock can produce substantially more bags than a typical pallet of shrink bags, streamlining logistics and warehousing.
In terms of sustainability, the Moda system incorporates Amcor Eco-Tite, a recycle-ready film that uses 29% less material than conventional shrink packaging.
It complies with the APR Design Guide and has passed its Critical Guidance Testing. Additionally, for bone-in beef cuts, the CBP tubestock serves as an eco-friendly replacement for patch bags, reducing material usage by more than 35% by weight.
Together, these features make the Moda vacuum packaging solution a clear example of how innovation can meet both business and environmental goals in the food packaging sector.
The packaging also eliminates manually inserted export cards, using high-resolution thermal printers to apply logos, dates, and time codes directly onto each package.
Once Upon a Farm CHEERCircle PE Recycle-Ready Spouted Pouch
Amcor’s second award-winning innovation at the 2025 Flexible Packaging Association Awards was the Once Upon a Farm CHEERCircle PE Recycle-Ready Spouted Pouch, developed in partnership with the children’s nutrition brand Once Upon a Farm.
This packaging solution combines AmPrima Plus film and the Vizi cap to create a fully recycle-ready pouch that aligns with the APR Design Guide for recyclability.
It is designed to meet the complex packaging requirements of refrigerated, pasteurized dairy and non-dairy food products, offering both performance and sustainability.
Once Upon a Farm’s products—made with organic, non-GMO fruits and vegetables and free from added sugars—are now offered in these new pouches, further aligning their nutritional mission with eco-conscious packaging.
A life cycle assessment (LCA) of the pouch, certified by the Carbon Trust, highlights its environmental benefits: a 22% reduction in carbon footprint per pouch and a 5% reduction in non-renewable energy use compared to the previous packaging format.
Further improvements come from the incorporation of the Vizi cap and CHEERClassic standard spout, which collectively reduce the amount of plastic used in the cap and spout by over 30%. This enhances the sustainability profile of the entire package while maintaining convenience and safety for consumers.
Through this collaboration, Amcor demonstrates how innovative design and materials can address both performance demands and environmental impact.
The project reflects Amcor’s continued commitment to supporting the circular economy and helping brands like Once Upon a Farm meet the growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
