GERMANY – Amcor and Lorenz Snacks are launching new recycle-ready packaging for the snack manufacturer’s Lentil Coated Peanuts product.
This initiative leverages Amcor’s AmPrima portfolio of mono-material, recycle-ready solutions, providing brands with a more sustainable choice.
The AmPrima packaging achieves a 51% reduction in carbon footprint, a 51% reduction in water consumption, and a 41% reduction in non-renewable energy use.
The packs are certified for recyclability by cyclos-HTP in countries with existing PE or PP recycling streams and align with the CEFLEX (Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging) design for circular economy guidelines.
Piotr Nagalski, Sales and Marketing Director for Snacks & Confectionery at Amcor highlighted that the AmPrima solution addresses one of the biggest challenges in snack packaging by preserving barrier protection, physical durability, and visual appeal while enabling consumers to recycle the packs easily.
Lorenz, a fourth-generation snack producer, is committed to improving sustainability. The company has already achieved a “good” rating for recyclability across 92% of its primary packaging from third-party cyclos-HTP.
By leveraging Amcor’s technology, Lorenz aims to convert the remaining percentages to “highly recyclable” by the end of 2025.
Packaging plays a crucial role in product protection, shelf life, and consumer appeal for products like Lorenz Lentil Coated Peanuts.
Traditional nut packaging often relies on multi-material composites, which are unrecyclable. Amcor’s AmPrima is a groundbreaking advancement that retains essential properties while being a mono-material solution.
Nagalski noted that the successful implementation of AmPrima packaging for Lorenz Lentil Coated Peanuts demonstrates the feasibility of more sustainable packaging in the snack industry.
Amcor’s innovative expertise and Lorenz’s deep understanding of the snack market have pushed the boundaries of what is possible.
Consumer research consistently shows a strong preference for more sustainable packaging that is also visually appealing. With the AmPrima solution, Lorenz maintains high consumer appeal, protective durability, and graphic clarity.
In April, Amcor expanded its North American printing and converting capabilities for the dairy market to support customers’ needs for flexible packaging.
Over the next 18 months, new equipment installations, primarily in northeast Wisconsin, will expand and optimize capacity while enhancing network reliability and responsiveness for dairy market customers. This expansion will also support the conversion to more sustainable packaging.
This investment complements Amcor’s comprehensive packaging portfolio, including technologies within retail and foodservice offerings, and will support customer transitions to the company’s recycle-ready AmPrima Plus packaging line.
Amcor stated that this investment underscores its commitment to investing in the future of dairy packaging products, enhancing capabilities, leveraging new technologies and innovations, and delivering meaningful expertise and insights to customers.
