NORTH AMERICA – Amcor, a leader in the development and production of responsible packaging solutions, has announced its intentions to enhance its North American thermoforming capabilities within the healthcare sector.
The augmentation involves integrating cutting-edge, automated thermoforming equipment into Amcor’s distinguished healthcare manufacturing facility in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
This move aims to address the escalating demand from clients in the medical, pharmaceutical, and consumer health domains.
The increased capacity will furnish an efficient alternative for enterprises seeking collaboration with Amcor to bolster their expansion initiatives.
Moreover, this expansion will facilitate customers in obtaining thermoforms and corresponding die-cut lids from a unified location, thereby streamlining the manufacturing and distribution of products.
Art Castro, Vice President and General Manager of Amcor Flexibles North America Healthcare, expressed enthusiasm about the strategic investment.
He stated, “We are excited to provide a crucial supply solution to our healthcare clients by enhancing our manufacturing capacities.
“This strategic investment underscores Amcor’s dedication to being a genuine growth partner by anticipating and addressing the distinctive thermoforming requirements of our customers as demand continues to rise.”
The expansion not only reinforces Amcor’s global thermoforming capabilities across diverse industries but also supports its commitment to sustainable practices.
Apart from the Oshkosh facility, dedicated healthcare plants include the company’s Sligo, Ireland facility, and plants in Mankato, Minnesota, and Carolina, Puerto Rico.
In Oshkosh, the newly acquired equipment, anticipated to be operational by December of this year, will be housed in the Class 7 cleanroom at the plant, operating under the ISO13485 quality system.
Meanwhile, in November of the previous year, Amcor entered a memorandum of understanding with sustainable polyethylene (PE) producer Nova Chemicals.
This agreement grants Amcor access to mechanically recycled PE resin incorporated into flexible packaging films.
The collaboration supports Amcor in acquiring Syndigo rPE resin from Nova Chemicals’ upcoming mechanical recycling facility in Connersville, Indiana, scheduled to commence operations as early as 2025.
Fred Stephan, President of Amcor Flexibles North America, conveyed enthusiasm about this opportunity, stating, “This presents an exciting opportunity for us to supplement our rPE supply, aligning with our goal of achieving 30 percent recycled material usage across our global portfolio by 2030.”
The incorporation of rPE into flexible packaging films aligns with Amcor’s overarching sustainability vision, aiding brand owners in meeting recycled content targets, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and actively contributing to environmental preservation.
