Aptar Beauty, Clarins unveil two-chamber foundation bottle with 95% recyclable materials

For a cosmetics sector under pressure to reduce virgin plastic use, the 95 percent recyclable figure is significant, though the 5 percent non-recyclable components typically involve the pump mechanism or decorative elements that current recycling infrastructure cannot process.

EMEA – Aptar Beauty has equipped Clarins with a two-in-one dispensing bottle for the Double Serum Foundation, featuring a 70 percent color cosmetics and 30 percent hydric system separated by a thin wall, with a rotating actuator that allows waste-free adjustable dosing across 37 shades.

The bottle taps into the “skinification” trend, a holistic category that blurs lines between skin care and makeup.

Marie Guillou, sales director custom at Aptar Beauty EMEA, explained that such complex custom projects bring together all of the company’s expertise in design, engineering, manufacturing, decoration, and logistics.

How It Works

Consumers can adjust a dial to change the ratio of color cosmetics to hydric serum, enabling customizable coverage across 37 available shades.

A rotating actuator delivers a small drop to a power shot, ensuring waste-free usage.

The bottle also features a lockable mechanism and a metalized design. Earlier this year, Clarins launched an AI-powered foundation shade-matching technology offered in-store to expand its personalized beauty portfolio.

Premium Design Meets Sustainability

The bottle is fitted with a polypropylene cap featuring gold lacquering, a red interior, and an embossed brand logo.

The full packaging contains at least 38 percent recycled material, with the bottle incorporating 95 percent recyclable materials according to Clarins.

The Skinification Trend Driving Innovation

The blurring line between skincare and makeup has created demand for packaging that preserves the integrity of active ingredients while delivering precise dosing.

Traditional foundation bottles treat color and serum as a single formula, but separating them until application preserves serum potency and allows users to adjust coverage daily.

This functional requirement demands packaging with two chambers, precise dosing, and leak-proof separation, all while maintaining premium aesthetics.

Aptar’s Broader Commitment

Aptar Beauty has seven product sites in Europe, offering personal care packaging options including fragrance pumps, airless dispensers, cosmetics pumps, metal parts, sticks, and sampling solutions.

At Packaging Innovations 2026 in Birmingham, Michael Hoer, regional platform manager at Aptar Beauty, noted that brands are increasingly developing hair care, sun care, and body care applications produced using fully recycled materials.
