The system has been designed for small-format flexographic printers and includes three integrated technologies.
USA – Asahi Photoproducts, a global leader in flexographic photopolymer plate development, has announced the first US installation of its newAWP™ Tap Water System at The Oldham Group.
The move represents a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainability through its “Road to Solvent ZERO” initiative.
The system, set to be commercially available from July 1, 2025, offers a fully solvent-free and detergent-free solution for flexographic platemaking.
It introduces a new era of eco-friendly production by using only tap water, minimizing environmental impact while maintaining high-quality print performance.
The AWP Tap Water System has been specifically designed for small-format flexographic printers and includes three integrated technologies:
AWP Tap Water Plate – A plate that can be processed using only tap water, eliminating volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and harsh chemicals. It delivers consistent, high-quality print results and improved production efficiency, particularly in label and flexible packaging applications.
AWP-2530AA Plate Processor – A compact processor tailored for smaller operations. It offers an intuitive interface and delivers fine screening capabilities with precise color reproduction.
AWP-LOOP Petite – A closed-loop water recycling system featuring Microza filtration technology from Asahi Kasei, significantly reducing wastewater and operational costs.
Together, these components offer a sustainable alternative to traditional platemaking processes that rely on solvents or detergent-based systems.
Commenting on the installation, Jerry Collins, Vice President of The Oldham Group, said, “Asahi’s launch of a plate that uses only tap water is a major step forward for the flexo industry. It significantly reduces a printer’s environmental footprint while delivering outstanding press performance.
“This technology offers printers a clear path to sustainable operations without compromising quality.”
The installation marks a critical advancement in Asahi’s global effort to eliminate solvent use in flexographic platemaking.
Through strategic partnerships with distributors such as The Oldham Group and Wikoff Color Corporation, Asahi aims to accelerate adoption of the AWP™ Tap Water System across the U.S. and beyond.
Asahi’s “Road to Solvent ZERO” initiative aligns with broader industry trends focused on sustainable packaging and reduced environmental impact, positioning the company at the forefront of green innovation in print technology.
