US – Global manufacturer and distributor of pressure-sensitive adhesive materials, Avery Dennison has introduced next-generation AD CleanFlake technology for HDPE bottles.
With the AD CleanFlake Portfolio, Avery Dennison says it is enabling rigid plastic recycling across its film portfolio, providing brands and converters solutions that support recycling processes without compromising performance to meet sustainability goals.
The technology enables recycling by working with the rigid plastic recycling processes to either remove cleanly in the case of polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, or to stay with the package in the case of high-density polyethylene, or HDPE.
The AD CleanFlake Portfolio creates the potential to divert more than 200 billion rigid plastic bottles and containers from landfills.
For this reason, AD CleanFlake technology has gained recognition by the Association of Plastic Recyclers, European PET Bottle Platform and Recyclass.
Pascale Wautelet, Vice President of Global R&D, Avery Dennison Label and Graphic Materials said: “This is an important step forward in using innovation to advance the circular packaging economy without compromising performance.
“Brands are actively seeking solutions to help them advance their sustainability initiatives, and our AD CleanFlake Portfolio significantly expands the applications for this groundbreaking technology.”
In addition, the AD CleanFlake technology is said to deliver high performance on adhesion, clarity, and conversion.
For converters, the adhesive features water whitening and bleeding resistance. Brands benefit from print quality that supports bold designs and contributes to shelf appeal, says the company.
The company also announced that AD CleanFlake will be available in Europe in September and North America by the end of 2022.
New adhesive for wine and spirits
Meanwhile, the company has introduced a new adhesive to its Wine and Spirits Portfolio.
The Avery Dennison Z2010 adhesive is engineered to support heavier facestocks and won’t float or show lift for up to eight hours while submerged in ice or cold box.
Applying labels to wine and sparkling wine bottles when they are cooler than their surroundings and slick with surface condensation is easier with Z2010.
In addition to its aggressive initial tack that ensures heavier, embellished labels stay firmly adhered, the Z2010 adhesive also offers improved tight mandrel performance.
Paul Purdef, Marketing Director for Specialty at Avery Dennison said: “As brands move to heavier stocks and more embellishments to differentiate in an increasingly competitive market, they must maintain a high level of performance in demanding end-use conditions.
“Our Z2010 adhesive protects the label adhesion throughout consumption, even for products that are kept on ice.”
This new adhesive will be showcased at the Avery Dennison booth at Labelexpo Americas 2022, September 13-15 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Chicago, IL.
