POLAND – Berry Global has teamed up with men’s skincare brand True to introduce a refillable deodorant in Poland, estimated to cut carbon emissions by about 53% compared to traditional single-use deodorants.
The innovative deodorant sticks are now available at 200 Douglas Perfumery stores, airport duty-free locations, and True’s online shop.
The refill system, featuring a 75ml recyclable polypropylene (PP) refill pack, requires replacement roughly every three months.
By eliminating the need to replace the entire deodorant stick, Berry projects a 53% reduction in carbon emissions and approximately 64% less plastic usage for the deodorant packaging.
Using SPICE analysis and Ecoinvent data, Berry calculates a potential 51% environmental impact reduction when comparing the initial packaging to the refill system.
True’s refill pack marks the first refillable antiperspirant introduced to the Polish market, aiming to promote reusability and significantly lower the brand’s environmental footprint.
The design allows consumers to keep the dispenser, replacing only the refill pack every three months, giving True flexibility to introduce new formulas and designs as market demands evolve.
Since its launch in Spring 2023, True’s refillable concept has resonated with consumers, especially after the brand’s sponsorship of the Ironman Poland competition.
“Athletes from over 100 nations received the antiperspirant in their gift packs, and three months later, we began receiving orders globally, showing that contestants have continued using the product,” noted Maciej Adamaszek, True’s managing director.
Berry Global’s commitment to sustainable, refillable packaging aligns with today’s increased demand for eco-friendly solutions.
“We’re dedicated to creating packaging that supports multiple lifecycles, fostering cleaner communities for future generations,” said Berry’s sales manager, Ewelina Cackowska.
“Collaborations like this enable us to meet sustainability goals while giving plastics multiple lives.”
In July, Berry also partnered with French cosmetics brand La Rosée on a refillable deodorant stick, reportedly achieving a 62% weight reduction compared to a full stick.
Made with 99% natural ingredients, La Rosée’s refillable deodorant stick follows a strict formulation policy, excluding aluminum salts and alcohol.
It adds that key criteria for the packaging was to have a reusable pack that could contain recycled material with no over-wrapping or secondary packaging.
At the same time the pack needed to be watertight, offer convenience and ease of use for the consumer, and be aesthetically pleasing to maintain brand image.
