The acquisition brings together two players in environmentally friendly packaging

AUSTRALIA – Australian company BioPak has acquired Bygreen, a leading importer of eco-friendly straws, barware, and wooden tableware.
The acquisition, announced recently, unites two key players dedicated to reducing plastic waste and advancing environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
Bygreen, a family-owned business based in Australia, has earned a strong reputation for its biodegradable products, particularly its paper straws.
According to industry insiders, the company has grown steadily, serving customers nationwide with a focus on sustainability.
The merger with BioPak, a Sydney-based firm established in 2006, strengthens both companies’ ability to meet the rising demand for eco-conscious alternatives.
“We’re proud of what we’ve built at Bygreen and excited to be joining forces with a company as purpose-driven as BioPak,” said Bygreen CEO Mick Krause in a statement.
“This partnership opens the door to new opportunities, greater impact, and long-term sustainability. It will also accelerate our growth and strengthen our shared commitment to reducing plastic waste, one product at a time.”
BioPak, known for its diverse range of compostable and recyclable packaging, has been a trailblazer in challenging traditional packaging models.
Its growth trajectory was boosted by a 75% acquisition by Sweden’s Duni Group in 2018, followed by investment from Australia’s Five V Capital.
“Bygreen has built a reputation for quality, integrity, and innovation, values that align closely with our own,” said BioPak CEO and co-founder Gary Smith.
“This is a company that has been at the forefront of the sustainable packaging sector for more than three decades, and we are proud to build upon this legacy through our new partnership.”
A recent report highlights the growing global demand for sustainable packaging, with the market projected to reach US$400 billion by 2028.
This acquisition positions BioPak to capitalize on this trend, combining Bygreen’s specialized products with BioPak’s extensive distribution network.
In related news, a recent industry update notes that Australian businesses are increasingly adopting compostable packaging to comply with stricter environmental regulations, further boosting demand for companies like BioPak and Bygreen.
The partnership is expected to enhance product offerings and accelerate innovation, reinforcing Australia’s leadership in sustainable packaging solutions.
