COLOMBIA – Celema, a leading player in Colombia’s co-packing beverage sector, has adopted SIG’s advanced aseptic carton-filling technology, making it the first company in the country.
According to the company, production on the SIG SmallBloc 12 Aseptic will begin by the end of Q4 2024, marking a significant milestone for both Celema and SIG in the South American market.
As one of South America’s key consumer markets, Colombia is strategically important due to its geographic location, serving as a gateway between Central and South America, and its robust trade ties with regional and global partners.
SIG’s expansion in the region reflects its commitment to leveraging Colombia’s growing demand for innovative and sustainable packaging solutions.
Founded over 65 years ago, Celema has established a strong reputation for producing high-quality dairy products in the Manizales region of the Caldas department.
While maintaining its commercial brand ‘Celema’ for the B2C market, the company has increasingly focused on B2B co-packing operations, catering to various beverage manufacturers.
SIG’s flexible aseptic filling technology allows Celema to provide packaging solutions tailored to protect product quality while offering diverse packaging volumes on a single filling machine.
The technology’s quick changeover capability was a key factor in Celema’s decision to partner with SIG, enabling them to meet various consumer price points and preferences.
Initially, Celema will focus on filling 200mL SIG SmallBloc carton packs with flavoured milk drinks, plant-based beverages, and juices, for which it is a leading name in Colombia.
Commitment to quality and sustainability
SIG’s Enrique Hargreaves, Head of Sales America-South, emphasized the collaboration’s significance, “We are excited to partner with Celema and introduce our aseptic filling technology to Colombia.
“This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing excellent and sustainable packaging solutions worldwide. The flexibility and efficiency of our technology will help Celema offer outstanding products to both local and international markets.”
Andres Orozco, Celema’s General Manager, echoed this sentiment: “We are thrilled to pioneer SIG’s aseptic filling technology in Colombia. This investment highlights our dedication to quality and sustainability while enhancing our production capabilities to meet diverse market needs in food, nutrition, and wellness.
“SIG’s flexibility will enable us to develop differentiated, value-added products and volumes currently unavailable in the Colombian market.”
By adopting SIG’s cutting-edge technology, Celema aims to elevate its offerings, catering to a broader range of consumer needs while aligning with global trends in sustainable packaging.
This partnership positions Celema as a pioneer in the Colombian market, paving the way for innovative beverage solutions and setting a high standard for the local and regional industries.
The collaboration reflects the growing demand for efficient, flexible, and sustainable packaging in Colombia and highlights the potential for continued growth and innovation in the beverage sector.
