Cortec introduces enhanced Eco Wrap compostable industrial stretch film

The film is produced with certified compostable resin and a proprietary tackifier additive.

USA – Cortec Corporation has unveiled a new and improved version of its Eco Wrap industrial stretch film, strengthening its position in compostable packaging solutions for logistics and industrial applications.

First launched five years ago, Eco Wrap was marketed as the world’s first patented, compostable, industrial-strength, machine-grade stretch film.

The latest iteration delivers significantly improved performance while retaining its certified industrial compostability credentials.

Produced using certified compostable resin and a proprietary tackifier additive, the upgraded Eco Wrap remains certified by TÜV Austria (certificate #TA8012106218) and complies with EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 standards for commercial composting.

According to Cortec, the enhanced formulation directly addresses customer feedback on the original product, particularly around cling performance, tear resistance, and ease of use in high-throughput pallet-wrapping operations.

Cortec acknowledged that the initial Eco Wrap formulation lacked sufficient tack and strength for some industrial users, often requiring additional labour and increasing the risk of tearing during application.

Over the past three years, the company’s film specialists have focused on material optimization, process refinement, and equipment upgrades to overcome these limitations.

As part of this effort, Cortec has invested more than US$2 million in capital improvements at its production facility, including new equipment designed to deliver tighter control over raw material concentrations and higher tackifier loading.

The company also evaluated alternative raw material options before finalizing the updated formulation, which it says is the strongest Eco Wrap produced to date.

These material improvements were complemented by extensive process optimization and operator training to ensure consistent film quality.

Performance gains are central to the relaunch. Cortec reports that the new Eco Wrap offers three times the cling and more than 1.5 times the tear strength compared to the previous version.

These enhancements enable tighter pallet wrapping with greater stretch, improved tail adhesion to wrapped loads, and better film transparency, key attributes for industrial users concerned with load stability and product visibility during transport.

The updated Eco Wrap is currently available as a custom-order product in widths ranging from 18 to 32 inches (45.7–81.3 cm), supplied in full pallet quantities.

Cortec said it is working toward expanded availability as a stocked item, with further updates expected in the coming months.

Positioned as an alternative for markets facing tightening plastic regulations, Eco Wrap targets companies operating in municipalities that restrict or eliminate conventional polyethylene stretch films.

The product is also aimed at businesses with corporate sustainability targets or access to industrial composting infrastructure, where certified compostable materials can be collected through existing waste management systems.

Cortec emphasized that Eco Wrap is intended exclusively for commercial composting facilities operated under best management practices and is not suitable for home composting.

As regulatory pressure on single-use plastics intensifies globally, the company sees demand growing for certified, performance-driven alternatives that reduce traditional plastic waste without compromising operational efficiency.
