USA – Cyclyx International has confirmed a US$135 million investment to establish its second Cyclyx Circularity Center (CCC2) in Texas.
This initiative, backed by joint venture partners Agilyx, ExxonMobil, and LyondellBasell, aims to strengthen the infrastructure supporting a circular economy for plastics.
CCC2, scheduled to commence operations in the second half of 2026, will process 300 million pounds of plastic waste feedstock annually.
The feedstock will cater to customers using both mechanical and advanced recycling technologies, promoting a more sustainable approach to plastic waste management.
Agilyx, a key partner in the venture, is contributing US$67.5 million, reflecting its 50% stake in Cyclyx. This investment is funded through equity and green bond financing.
Ranjeet Bhatia, CEO of Agilyx, emphasized the project’s significance, “We are thrilled to achieve this important milestone in expanding the CCC network. CCC1 and CCC2 will have a combined capacity of 600 million pounds of plastic feedstock annually.
“This investment helps divert plastic waste from landfills, transforming it into valuable feedstock for all plastic recyclers and advancing the circular economy.”
Expanding recycling capabilities
Cyclyx Circularity Centers are designed to handle a broad spectrum of plastic waste, including types not typically accepted by conventional recycling programs in the U.S.
This flexibility enhances the recycling ecosystem and broadens the range of materials that can be repurposed.
Recently, Anchor Packaging LLC joined Cyclyx’s Cyclyx Consortium, reinforcing efforts to increase plastic recyclability from 10% to 90%.
Richard Daniels, EVP of Marketing and Custom Products at Anchor Packaging highlighted the partnership’s potential, “Partnering with Cyclyx was an easy decision. Their mission and expertise accelerate our progress in advancing foodservice sustainability.
“Packaging plays a critical role in preventing food waste and improving the recovery of recyclable materials only adds to its positive impact.”
In 2021, Anchor Packaging launched its Drive for 5 initiative to create collection channels for #5 polypropylene (PP), a widely used, versatile packaging material. The company has successfully minimized waste, generating less than 0.5% by recapturing nearly all production materials.
Through the collaboration with Cyclyx, Anchor aims to expand its post-consumer Drive for 5 efforts, engage broader audiences, and secure higher volumes of #5 PP material.
Cyclyx will support these efforts by integrating them into its 10to90 landfill-diversion programs and initiating new pilots.
The partnership’s insights will help design new programs that enhance the recovery of valuable post-consumer materials, driving meaningful progress in sustainable packaging and circular economy initiatives.
