CANADA – Danone Canada has announced a C$9m ($6.5m) investment in its Boucherville site, aiming to manufacture new sole yoghurt containers from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin.
This investment aligns with the company’s broader strategy to promote sustainable packaging methods.
The project aims to achieve 30% recycled content in the new containers by using recycled PET (rPET).
The Government of Québec has played a pivotal role in this venture, ensuring its success and credibility.
This initiative marks a leap forward in the agri-food sector and is supported by Danone’s Oikos brand.
Investissement Québec has provided substantial financial support, further solidifying the project’s viability.
Investissement Québec International president Hubert Bolduc remarked, “Danone Canada is an example to follow when it comes to putting down roots in Québec.”

Retail outlets across Canada have begun stocking the new Oikos PET containers.

In September 2024, Danone’s global reach extended to Indonesia, where it launched a recycling centre.
Prevented Ocean Plastic, Southeast Asia, in collaboration with consumer goods giant Danone, inaugurated a high-capacity plastic collection centre in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
This facility, established by Prevented Ocean Plastic, is part of an ambitious goal to launch 25 centres globally by 2025.
This initiative aligns with Danone’s broader sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing plastic waste and supporting circular economic practices.
