Karen S. Carter has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Dow, overseeing the company’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure, and Performance Materials & Coatings segments.

Her role will focus on strengthening customer engagement, driving innovation commercialization, and improving reliability and service.

In addition, Carter will have oversight of Integrated Supply Chain, Purchasing, Information Systems, and Commercial operations, reporting directly to Dow Chair and CEO Jim Fitterling.

She will also join the Executive Committee and remain based in Midland, Michigan.

“Karen is a proven leader with more than three decades of experience at Dow, delivering strong business results,” said Fitterling.

“Her operational expertise and focus on innovation and customer relationships will be instrumental as we drive growth and value creation across our segments.”

Carter, who joined Dow in 1994, has held leadership roles across business operations, sales, marketing, and human resources, including global positions in Building and Construction, Polyethylene, and Consumer Electronics.

Most recently, she led the Packaging & Specialty Plastics segment, which achieved over US$23 billion in annual sales under her leadership.

Carter spearheaded initiatives such as launching circular product lines like REVOLOOP and INNATE and forging strategic partnerships to advance sustainability.

He will also assume executive oversight for Latin America, focusing on advancing sustainability goals and maintaining market leadership.

Cleason’s extensive experience, including roles in Olefins, Aromatics & Alternatives and as global asset director for Polyethylene, positions him to drive growth and strategic alignment.

“Keith’s strategic mindset and leadership are ideal for this transformative phase of P&SP,” said Carter.

“His expertise will be pivotal in advancing our sustainability goals while delivering innovative solutions.”
