Dow partners with Delian Group to advance eco-friendly automotive packaging

CHINA—Dow, the Global leader in materials science, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Guangdong Delian Group, marking a strategic collaboration to enhance sustainability in automotive packaging.

Together, the companies will expand the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins, advancing the industry’s shift towards a circular economy.

Dow’s REVOLOOP recycled plastics resins have already been incorporated into Delian Group’s auto care product packaging, helping to cut the carbon footprint by reducing reliance on virgin resins.

Xu Tuanhua, Chairman of Delian Group, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Our commitment to energy conservation and low-carbon operations aligns perfectly with Dow’s expertise.

“This partnership significantly advances our sustainable practices, positioning Delian Group as a leader in eco-friendly automotive solutions and addressing the rising demand for sustainable products globally.”

The collaboration is set to drive further innovation, positioning PCR resins as a staple in automotive packaging and showcasing how waste materials can be reimagined as valuable resources.

Bambang Candra, Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics (P&SP) Asia Pacific Commercial Vice-President, emphasized, “Incorporating sustainable materials offers environmentally responsible choices for consumers and strengthens the circular economy within automotive services.

“Dow is committed to expanding our REVOLOOP portfolio to meet our customers’ sustainability goals.”

Dow’s P&SP division, a prominent player in polyethylene resins, functional polymers, and adhesives, has recently accelerated its circular packaging initiatives.

In August, Dow introduced advanced technologies at Pack Studios in Freeport, Texas, to enhance the development of recyclable packaging solutions.

This expansion includes a machine direction orientation (MDO) unit, a first in North America with in-line, commercial-scale MDO pilot capabilities, and an upgraded cast film line.

The MDO unit is instrumental in testing durable films for recyclability, a crucial element in Dow’s “Design for Recyclability” initiative. This initiative seeks to offer all-polyethylene packaging alternatives for previously non-recyclable multi-material designs.

“The MDO capabilities empower us to develop best practices across global markets,” said Kara Stoney, Dow’s Marketing Manager for Sustainable Packaging.

The updated cast film line, equipped with seven extruders and a six-component blending system, is designed for next-generation industrial and commercial packaging solutions.

Pack Studios, established 12 years ago as a collaborative hub for packaging innovation, provides an ideal setting for Dow’s sustainable material development.

The facility’s recent upgrades include a fully automated winding section, which enhances safety and automation, and an EREMA pelletizing unit, which creates in-house recycled materials.

Pack Studios offers brands a space for experimentation and development, allowing them to explore cutting-edge packaging solutions without disrupting production workflows.

This partnership between Dow and Delian Group reflects a joint commitment to sustainability and innovation, propelling eco-friendly practices in the automotive sector forward.
