MALAYSIA – Greif, Inc., a global leader in industrial packaging products and services, has officially opened its new manufacturing facility in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

This marks a major step forward in the company’s strategy to expand its presence in Southeast Asia while contributing to local economic growth.

The new facility focuses on producing Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs), which serve key industries such as food, chemicals, lubricants, flavors, and fragrances.

Greif’s high standards of quality are reinforced by its ISO 9001:2015 certification, ensuring the facility adheres to stringent production and operational protocols.

“We are thrilled to open our new facility in Pasir Gudang,” said Ole Rosgaard, President and CEO of Greif.

“This location was strategically selected due to its excellent infrastructure and proximity to our key customers. Our investment here not only enhances our production capabilities but also reflects our confidence in Johor’s economic potential. Moreover, this facility will contribute to regional development by creating job opportunities.”

Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, CEO of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), welcomed Greif’s expansion, stating, “The opening of Greif’s new facility is a testament to Malaysia’s robust industrial landscape and highlights the continued success of our manufacturing sector.

“The facility will play a pivotal role in creating jobs, enhancing the local talent pool, and strengthening Malaysia’s manufacturing ecosystem and supply chains.”

The Pasir Gudang facility is equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies, including blow molding and cage line systems, ensuring production aligns with Greif’s quality and sustainability standards.

The company’s expansion comes at a time when Malaysia is increasingly attracting foreign investment in the packaging sector.

In line with this trend, Swedish company Nefab has also expanded its presence in Malaysia by opening a 25,000 square foot semiconductor packaging facility in Penang.

This facility, expected to be fully operational by 2025, will play a crucial role in the semiconductor equipment industry by providing innovative, safe, and environmentally conscious packaging solutions.

Nefab’s expansion aligns with its commitment to resource conservation and sustainability in the supply chain.

The new facility will focus on manufacturing customizable export-compliant wooden crates and foldable nail-less plywood boxes, adding to its presence in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and future business ventures in Indonesia.

This broader investment in sustainable packaging solutions, including Nefab’s thermoformed trays made from recycled and 100% recyclable materials, complements the regional growth of companies like Greif, further establishing Southeast Asia as a hub for innovation in the industrial packaging industry.

Greif’s new facility in Pasir Gudang underscores the company’s commitment to both technological innovation and regional economic development, setting a strong foundation for future growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
