IFFCO and Tetra Pak collaborate for sustainable packaging solutions

UAE – Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, IFFCO Group, has forged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tetra Pak, a leading food processing and packaging solutions provider.

Their collaboration seeks to bolster sustainability initiatives across IFFCO’s manufacturing facilities, as reported by Zawya.

This strategic alliance aims to implement global standards, leveraging advanced practices and technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of the FMCG giant.

IFFCO’s efforts in the region involve the establishment of a state-of-the-art factory, equipped with cutting-edge technology for the production of culinary creams.

IFFCO’s objective is to manufacture sustainable, high-quality products, thereby contributing to the Saudi Arabian economy while championing waste reduction, emission mitigation, and compliance with green industry protocols.

The focus remains on supporting long-term sustainable production and packaging of culinary creams within Saudi Arabia.

Rizwan Ahmed, IFFCO’s executive director, emphasized the collaboration’s significance in fostering sustainability at the plant.

Working alongside Tetra Pak, IFFCO aims to enhance reliability, package recyclability, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.

These efforts involve the employment of local skilled personnel, reinforcing the country’s economic growth and future ambitions.

Simultaneously, IFFCO solidifies its regional presence as a catalyst for change, advocating reduced reliance on fossil fuels and a diminished carbon footprint.

IFFCO has embraced a comprehensive suite of sustainability measures aimed at curbing the overall environmental impact of the group.

Additionally, the company is actively engaging local suppliers and third-party entities to further embed eco-friendly practices.

In a recent development earlier this year, IFFCO unveiled the installation of Sidel’s complete polyethylene terephthalate (PET) lines in Al-Ain, UAE, and the establishment of a new facility in Baghdad, Iraq.

These PET lines boast a reported capacity of up to 9,000 bottles per hour, offering flexibility in handling three bottle designs, two cap options, and three label variations.

The upstream part of the line contains the compact blow/fill/cap Combi solution, which integrates Serac’s accurate weight filler.

The Combi’s blowing part also benefits from preferential heating technology, which optimizes PET distribution while allowing the asymmetrical stretching needed to blow flat and shaped containers.

Down the line, the AQFlex smooth contactless accumulation and conveying system contributes to bottle integrity during the transfer from the Combi to the labeler.

For secondary packaging, the Cermex WB46 case packer performs case squaring and hot melt sealing, despite limited counterpressure provided as a result of the shaped bottles inside the wrap-around outer packaging.
