Madayn inks deal with be’ah to strengthen industrial waste management

Companies operating in Madayn’s industrial cities will be registered on be’ah’s electronic waste-management platforms.

OMAN – The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has signed a cooperation program with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) to enhance the management, treatment and regulation of industrial waste across the Sultanate’s industrial cities.

The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework governing the handling of industrial and hazardous waste generated by manufacturers operating within Madayn’s estates.

It aims to create an integrated waste-management system aligned with approved environmental standards, while increasing recycling rates, strengthening traceability and reducing reliance on landfill disposal.

The move reflects mounting pressure on industrial operators to mitigate environmental impacts as production capacity expands across Oman’s manufacturing, petrochemical and logistics sectors.

By reinforcing monitoring mechanisms and introducing advanced treatment and classification processes, the program is expected to accelerate the transition toward a circular economy within the country’s industrial base.

Under the cooperation framework, companies operating in Madayn’s industrial cities will be registered on be’ah’s electronic waste-management platforms.

Firms must implement the “Manifest System” prior to transporting waste to licensed treatment facilities, ensuring full traceability of waste streams from source to final processing.

The system is designed to improve regulatory oversight, reduce illegal dumping and enhance transparency in waste flows.

The program also formalizes the organization of waste transportation routes and requires proper sorting, classification and repackaging of waste in line with approved technical and environmental standards before recycling or disposal.

Hazardous materials will be subject to stricter documentation and handling protocols to ensure compliance with national and international environmental regulations.

As part of the agreement, be’ah will provide specialized technical support to industrial operators, including evaluation and classification of waste streams, identification of suitable treatment technologies and cost assessments.

The company will also deliver detailed data on waste volumes received at treatment facilities, supporting more accurate reporting and performance benchmarking.

Joint inspection mechanisms between Madayn and be’ah will further strengthen compliance enforcement, verifying adherence to environmental regulations governing industrial waste and emissions.

Beyond operational measures, the initiative incorporates training and awareness programs aimed at investors, factory operators and employees.

These efforts are intended to promote resource efficiency, encourage recycling and embed sustainable production practices across Oman’s industrial ecosystem.

The partnership signals a broader shift toward integrated environmental governance, positioning Oman’s industrial cities to align growth ambitions with national sustainability objectives while reducing the environmental footprint of manufacturing activities.
