DS Smith Tape Back is designed to simplify the e-commerce returns process while utilising the minimal volume of materials.

GREECE – Minerva, a prominent Greek apparel company, has teamed up with DS Smith to introduce the innovative Tape Back box, designed to streamline e-commerce returns while cutting down on packaging waste.
The solution, launched in Greece on September 5, 2025, addresses the growing challenge of waste generated by online shopping returns, a pressing issue in the fashion industry.
The Tape Back box features two integrated, easy-to-peel adhesive strips, allowing customers to open and reseal the package securely for return shipments without additional tape.
According to DS Smith, this design eliminates the need for internal protective materials like filler paper or air cushions, reducing material use.
The box also incorporates a crush lock or auto-lock bottom, ensuring secure closure and enabling faster assembly on production lines.
Ioannis Filippou, managing director at Minerva, stated, “This solution enhances the delivery and returns experience for our customers while helping us reduce our environmental footprint.”
Minerva, known for its luxury and ready-to-wear apparel for men, women, and children, as well as homewares, operates outlets in Greece, Cyprus, and Serbia.
The partnership comes as e-commerce continues to drive packaging waste, prompting brands to seek sustainable solutions.
George Filippoglou, DS Smith’s cluster director for Greece, noted that the Tape Back box supports a seamless consumer experience and advances sustainability goals.
In a statement, DS Smith highlighted that the Tape Back box is part of its broader strategy to reduce single-use plastics, with the company having replaced over US$1 billion worth of plastic packaging globally, including US$7 million in Greece alone.
A recent US$19.7 million investment in DS Smith’s Korinthos facility, completed in September 2024, has increased production capacity by 30%, enabling the company to meet growing demand for sustainable packaging in the region.
A report by DS Smith in February 2025 revealed that 60% of U.S. consumers experienced damaged goods from online orders in 2024, underscoring the need for reliable packaging like Tape Back.
The solution’s design minimizes the risk of product damage during returns, benefiting both retailers and customers.
Additionally, DS Smith’s collaboration with Jonsac in April 2024 to supply recyclable paper bags across Europe further demonstrates its commitment to sustainable e-commerce packaging.
