To ensure a smooth handover, Hood assumed the Chief Operating Officer (COO) role on April 1.
SOUTH AFRICA – Nampak, South Africa’s largest packaging manufacturer, has named Andrew Hood as new CEO, replacing Phildon Roux, who will step down effective September 30.
The move marks a strategic effort to ensure continuity and reinforce the company’s long-term planning capabilities as it navigates a complex and evolving packaging landscape.
To ensure a smooth handover, Hood assumed the Chief Operating Officer (COO) role on April 1. This transitional period allows him to work closely with Roux, facilitating a detailed transfer of responsibilities and insights.
Hood brings a wealth of experience from within Nampak, having previously served as the portfolio executive overseeing the group’s diversified segment.
His in-depth understanding of operational processes and market dynamics has earned him recognition as a strong internal candidate well-suited for the top job.
“His operational expertise and deep understanding of the business and market dynamics make him a natural successor,” Nampak stated.
The company expressed confidence in Hood’s ability to lead the packaging giant through its next transformation and growth phase.
Roux to chair strategic committee
Although Roux will step down as CEO at the end of Nampak’s financial year, his journey with the company is far from over.
He will transition into a new leadership position as chairperson of the soon-to-be-established Strategic Planning and Oversight Committee.
This newly formed body will serve as a subcommittee of the board and will be tasked with steering the group’s strategic planning efforts.
Among its key responsibilities, the committee will align capital investment initiatives with broader business goals, provide oversight of infrastructure and plant planning, and help guide major customer engagement strategies.
The aim is to bring more structured and forward-thinking governance into Nampak’s long-term planning processes, ensuring agility and resilience in a fast-changing market.
The leadership changes are pivotal for Nampak, which has faced mounting pressure in recent years to streamline operations, improve returns, and enhance its competitive edge.
With Hood now poised to lead operational execution and Roux transitioning into a strategic advisory role, the company clearly intends to build a more robust, focused, and strategically aligned leadership structure.
