EUROPE – Neste is strengthening its chemical recycling capabilities through a partnership with Tepsa Netherlands. The partnership focuses on the storage and handling of liquefied waste plastic in Rotterdam.
This collaboration emphasizes the implementation of advanced aggregation tanks and underscores Neste’s commitment to expanding its liquefied waste plastic processing capabilities while advancing the circular economy.
Following successful industrial-scale processing runs, Neste is poised to use larger quantities of liquefied waste plastic as a raw material at its Porvoo refinery in Finland.
This initiative aims to convert the waste into Neste RE™, a high-quality recycled drop-in feedstock for producing new plastics and chemicals.
The aggregation tanks will be strategically located in the Port of Rotterdam to optimize supply chains and streamline logistics.
As Neste secures liquefied waste plastic supplies from various European suppliers, this central logistics hub provides seamless connectivity to the continent’s extensive infrastructure.
The state-of-the-art tank solution and the surrounding infrastructure will ensure safe and reliable storage of liquefied waste plastic.
Both companies have meticulously planned the preparation and installation of the tanks, reflecting their commitment to safety and excellence.
The tanks are expected to be operational in the second half of 2025, aligning with the ongoing construction of upgraded facilities for liquefied waste plastic in Porvoo.
Andreas Teir, Head of Chemical Recycling at Neste, stated, “The new aggregation tanks in Rotterdam are crucial for optimizing our supply chain and achieving our ambitious goals for processing liquefied waste plastic.
“We are continuously expanding our network of suppliers for this material, and the new storage significantly enhances our offtake flexibility. This initiative paves the way for a more sustainable and circular plastics economy, and we are excited about the opportunities this collaboration brings.”
Bruno Hayem, CEO of Tepsa, added, “This collaboration marks a significant advancement in our long-term commitment to sustainability and the energy transition. By the second half of 2025, we will begin stocking liquefied waste plastic, diversifying our product portfolio and reinforcing our leadership in storing more sustainable, low-carbon products.
“This partnership builds on our existing collaboration with Neste and supports our strategy to broaden our service offerings while helping Neste pave the way for a more sustainable and circular economy.”
Neste is committed to advancing the chemical recycling of plastic waste, aiming to process over one million tons annually.
To accommodate larger quantities of liquefied waste feeds, the company is constructing upgrading facilities with a capacity of 150,000 tons of liquefied waste plastic per year.
Neste will refine raw materials , including liquefied waste plastic and discarded rubber tires, into high-quality drop-in feedstock for new plastics production.
