Parkside unveils innovative lidding film for fruit packaging

UK – Parkside has strengthened its commitment to fresh produce, meat, and dairy industries by launching a range of innovative lidding film solutions

The award-winning flexible packaging specialist has expanded its portfolio, offering food brands, packers, and processors unprecedented customization to meet specific product needs.

Among the new offerings is Popflex, a monopolymer lidding film featuring laser-scored easy-open functionality.

Designed for recyclability, Popflex is compatible with PET trays and earned the Recyclable Packaging Innovation Award at the 2024 Sustainable Packaging News Awards.

The expanded range also includes recyclable reclosable films and a variety of monopolymer, compostable, paper, and standard polymer films suitable for diverse applications.

“No two packaging projects are ever the same,” said Ian McManus, Sales Account Manager at Parkside.

“Each application demands a tailored approach that considers the unique needs of the product and customer. Our extensive portfolio empowers clients to perfect every detail, whether they prioritize high barrier properties, easy-open features, recyclability, or exceptional print quality.”

Award-Winning Paper Flow Wrap for Cox & Co

Parkside’s dedication to sustainable innovation was further recognized with a Gold Award for its paper flow wrap solution developed for Cox & Co’s premium chocolate brand, Farm to Bar Cacao.

This fully recyclable, paper-based flow wrap integrates seamlessly with existing hot-seal equipment while offering consumers simple kerbside recyclability.

Made from FSC-certified virgin paper that can be recycled up to 40 times, the wrap incorporates water-based barrier coatings that protect against moisture and oxygen without compromising sustainability.

“This collaboration demonstrates the potential of ‘paperisation’ to meet technical and environmental goals,” noted Staci Bye, Sales Account Manager at Parkside.

“By combining functionality, recyclability, and Cox & Co’s rustic premium aesthetic, we’ve delivered a standout packaging solution that advances sustainability.”

The development process took 18 months, resulting in a solution that preserves freshness and runs efficiently on Cox & Co’s packaging lines.

It also replaces wood pulp-based compostable packaging with a recyclable alternative, meeting growing consumer and regulatory demands for circular materials.

“This recognition highlights our ongoing investment in sustainable packaging innovation,” added Staci.

“Paper-based solutions like ours prove that circular materials can meet even the toughest packaging challenges without compromise.”

Parkside’s accolades reflect its growing reputation for pioneering flexible, sustainable packaging solutions that address the evolving needs of brands and consumers.
