TANZANIA – Rolls-Royce, through its Power Systems division, has announced a partnership with the Karimjee Group, an East African conglomerate with nearly 200 years of history, to deliver advanced mtu power solutions across Tanzania.

This collaboration aims to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure, support sustainable development, and drive industrial growth.

The partnership will leverage Karimjee Group’s extensive market presence, local expertise, and distribution network to offer the full range of mtu power generation systems, a key focus for Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division.

Rolls-Royce’s mtu brand is globally recognized for its high-performance propulsion and power generation systems, including diesel and gas engines, battery containers, and combined heat and power generation solutions.

These systems are designed for mission-critical, standby, and continuous power, as well as microgrids, making them ideal for Tanzania’s industrial needs.

mtu engines are praised for their low emissions and high efficiency, capable of running on various alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), biodiesel, synthetic diesel, natural gas, and biogas.

This aligns with Tanzania’s sustainability goals, as Rolls-Royce’s energy-efficient solutions contribute to reducing carbon emissions while fostering economic growth.

The Karimjee Group, with its deep understanding of the Tanzanian market, will provide customers with top-tier support, including after-sales service, maintenance, and technical expertise.

“We are excited to partner with Rolls-Royce to bring world-class power solutions to Tanzania. This partnership underscores our commitment to driving industrial growth and sustainable development in the region by offering our customers the most advanced and reliable technologies,” said Rishad Karimjee, Director of Karimjee.

Cobus van Schalkwyk, Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Solutions Africa, added, “Our collaboration with Karimjee is a significant milestone in expanding our presence in Africa. Together, we will equip Tanzanian industries with the energy solutions needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive global market.”

This partnership marks an important step toward advancing Tanzania’s energy sector while promoting sustainable growth and innovation.

In a related development, the government of Tanzania, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union (EU), and the Embassy of Ireland, has awarded Sh250 million to ten innovators in a move to promote sustainable energy.

The initiative, part of an energy efficiency innovation challenge, aims to spark sustainable energy practices and introduce solutions to address energy inefficiency in the country.

Under the theme “Igniting Sustainable Energy Practices for a Greener Future,” the initiative aligns with Tanzania’s first Energy Efficiency Action Plan.
